    2017 397TH - cable pathway from roof

    Hello!

I'd like to run cabling from the roof, directly over the fireplace (or somewhere in the vicinity) to support a couple of MIMO cell antennas.

Is there an accessway? Is drilling through the roof a "bad" idea?

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Walt

Walt - I drilled through my roof to install solar power cables. I used a device called a solar cable gland at the interface between the cables and the roof. You can see where I made the entry in this picture:

Here is a link to the gland that I used:

However, I was concerned that the plastic might not be UV rated, so I painted it with white paint before installing it. You could easily make your own entry box with an electrical junction box and would have the benefit of it being metal instead of plastic. In either case, make sure you seal it well with lap sealant.

I do recommend that you drill from the interior up instead of the other way around. That way you know you're making the penetration in exactly the spot you want.

Check your roof for something that looks like a patch. Solitudes and Momentums were starting to have a chase way from the factory for solar and satellite. I'll see if I can dig up the photo.

Did you go straight down and to your battery area to your controller?

No, this is a travel trailer. I went into a closet, down the wall, through the floor, then along the frame and up into the basement.
