Bumper is thin Gauge Steel - Inappropriate for welding

These images only show the weld at the bumper which is simply to prevent the receiver tube from vibrating against the hitch. However, the rear bumper is only made of thin gauge steel, so does not add any strength to the hitch.

The image resolution are too low quality to determine the weld quality.

The only way to verify if the frame is not compromised or the frame warranty invalidated is to get Lippert Approval for the hitch installation whether it is welded or bolted on.

Note that the Reflection trailers are only 96" wide as opposed to the wide body Solitudes at 101" wide.

Here are a few additional points I learned from Lippert:
    1) A welded hitch is stronger than a bolted on hitch
    2) Lippert does offer a bolted on hitch
    3) The rear bumper is made of "thin gauge steel" insufficient for carrying loads above 300Lbs approximately

Call Lippert Customer Service for any questions before adding hitches or modifying the frame in any way. They may have a solution that will meet your needs. Always get their response in writing and keep it with your trailer in case its needed for proof.

    Good Luck

Good idea. With the 3 receiver tubes, you not only strengthened the platform but prevented it from wobbling (especially when unbalanced) which is a typical problem with the platforms.

We're have a receiver hitch installed by a certified welder tomorrow. Our dealer said it will probably void the frame warranty, but in 15 years he has never seen a frame issue. The welding company will provide documentation for the hitch capacity. We're tired of being limited by GD not putting one on during manufacturing.

I have just read through the thread on this topic. Yesterday I spoke with a Lippert person who stated that welding a receiver to the frame of a 310GK would absolutely void the warranty. He said that the only way to adequately reinforce the frame would be to cut the bumper off and that also would void the frame warranty. I spoke with GD this morning and was told that adding a receiver would void the warranty as stated in their manual. I wonder if Lippert has changed their policy since the installation for RAM 2500 CTD? Has anyone else installed a receiver in more recent times?

My 2020 310 GK came with a rear receiver rated for 500 lbs. And I thought the 2019 we looked at also had a receiver.

I'm currently using a Kuat NV 2.0 rack on our rig for our two MTBs.

    Best regards,
