Shelf above bed in Reflection 303RLS

We have had our 2018 Reflection 303RLS for 9 months. My wife likes to read in bed before going to sleep, but the shelf prevents her from sitting up when reading. Has anyone removed or modified the shelf? She would like to either remove it completely or at least raise it 2 inches. I don't want to make any changes that may be structural. Thanks for your input.

I remember a thread a while back where someone removed the whole cabinetry at the front end of their 303 because they were clostraphobic. Nothing there is structural.

We are going to remove and modify that darn shelf when we get home (the band saw is there) in late spring. I have hit my head occasionally for almost 4 years on that darn thing . It is screwed on from the underside and looks easily removed. I plan on following the radius and making little end shelves out of it and reinstalling those.
The remaining visible screw holes can be hidden by some creative trim deco. I don't know why it took us so long to decide on removing it. Who ever was involved in the design of that must have never sat up in bed.

I removed ours for the same reason! There was no problem taking the screws out. I spackled the holes and painted over with two colors of craft paint to match. Can't even see where the holes were. Much better for us!
