No pressure out of the hot water faucet

We have a 2017 Grand Design trailer 297RLS. Our hot water heater works in both electric and gas mode, but yesterday the hot water would come out of the faucet for 5 minutes and then shut off completely. After about an hour, we would run it again and have hot water for 5 minutes and then it would shut off again. Any suggestions?

Are you on city water or dry camping water? Cold water works? Is there a water pump sound, pulsating pump?

We are on city water. The water pump does make noise when we have it turned on. We have also tried just turning on the water pump and the same thing happens. Hot water for 5 minutes then nothing.

Good morning, and welcome to the forum Cheryldean. I assume it's a 297RSTS? In order to help, we need just a little more info.

    1. Are you running off of hose pressure or the water pump?
    2. Is any air coming out of the faucet when you are running the hot water?
    3. Is there any reduction of cold water at the same time?
    4. Did you have freezing temperatures last night?
    5. Are you using a water filter? Pressure regulator?
    6. I know you said it would "shut off completely", but just so I understand. Do you mean that the hot water would turn cold, or that the flow of water would shut off?

    1. Hose pressure
    2. No air coming out
    3.No reduction of cold water
4.No freezing last night. 2 wees ago, we had a week of below freezing, but we ran water all night out of all faucets and heated the basement.
    5. No water filter or pressure regulator
    6. Flow of water would shut off. Then after about an hour we could run the hot water again for 5 minutes and it would shut off again. Cold water pressure is good.

    Thank you for your help!

There is a check valve at the output of the hot water tank. Normally, it either works or doesn't. I can envision the check valve getting hot with a constant flow of hot water and hanging up though. Here is a related post that not only discusses the check valve, but also debris in the lines like Gold Country Livin' mentions above.

When is the last time you flushed your hot water tank and changed your anode rod? Do you have an inline filter?
SOLD my 2017 Momentum 376TH being pulled by a 2014 Ford F-350 Lariat, FX-4, Crew Cab, Longbed, Dually. Not pulling the 5er, catch me on my 2013 CVO Harley Ultra Classic.

No anode rod in the 2017 297. At least not in ours. It's an Atwood water heater. But draining and flushing the unit is a good idea. Sediment can pool up at the outlet and cause reduced or blocked flow.
