    Andersen/ 2017 F350 SB

I am picking up my new Reflection 303 tomorrow. Had the Andersen hitch installed yesterday at the dealer on a Blue Ox flip ball, 2017 F350 SB 4x4. The tech was fairly insistent to install the funnel facing forward (towards the truck). In my reading and discussion with JerryR, my concern is when the funnel is forward, the pin box can strike the bed rails. I want to turn the ball funnel rearward towards the trailer. I, and my spotter, can see the corner of trailer approaching the window a heck of a lot easier than I can see the pin box hitting.

Frankly, as a newbie, first drive home to storage, I would like to be at least confident about one decision and not let the tech make me more nervous. Thoughts? Any others with similar set up?
    Thanks in advance.

I have the same TV and almost the same RV and I have the funnel forward with no problems. At least 6 or 8 inches bed rail clearance all around and LOTS of cab clearance.

The only place that came close to the bedrails was the hitch control that I had mounted to far outboard under the RV overhang.

I would add that this truck is TALL, but it squats down nearly 4 inches with my RV and is nearly level. I have one set of pinbox boltholes left, but I'm close enough to level and the axle weights are within 20#. Keep in mind that I have 16 inch tires and the 303 may have 15's. I'm sure someone can address that.

You'll enjoy the new rig and love the Andersen hitch.

I initially started with the funnel forward and then switched it to the back because of the same concern you cite.

Thanks. Sounds like you've tried both and found funnel to the rear to be better? Still plenty of bumper/RV clearance? I think I may try it.

OP, please disregard what I said above. I haven't (yet) tried the alternate position and it may be better.

Thank you (sorta you too John!).

I do have 16" tires, but dont know thecurrent pin box setting.

That's actually several people who have put the funnel on rearward with similar TV for the bed rail concern. JerryR on here took pretty precise measurements.

I was dead set on installation procedure, had done copious research, was all in, until the tech pushed back. I'm going to insist it be mounted rearward. I trust real world owners and the voices here.

You convinced me and I think there will be plenty of bed and cab clearance either way. Thank YOU.

Lol. Good gracious don't take my word for anything. Everything I know at this point about 5th wheel trailering wouldn't fil a thimble... which only exceeds every salesperson I have spoken to thus far.

    Thanks again guys, sincerely.

Simple enough to check. Slowly make a turn in a parking lot with a spotter walking beside the truck. If you approach 90 degrees without almost hitting anywhere, you are good.

I had the same conversation with dealer. I already knew I wanted to have the funnel close r to the rv for similar reasons. I have the Andersen on the lowest setting. I do only get maybe a 70 ish degree before hitting cab.

My thought was to try it the other way in a parking lot and maybe put it in middle height for ball. Think that might give me another couple of inches away from bed rail. Just conjecture right now... would love more folks chiming in with exact set ups

Agreed, great suggestion Ski. Initial drive "home" to storage facility and backing into spot won't afford too much luxury of extra time and dropping trailer, reconfigure, etc.

So, want to do everything in my power to at least make it back and parked on first drive, without incident, then afterwards find a large empty parking lot early on a Sunday morning and have the chance to "play" with and experiment.
