    Reflection Slide Out Question

On our 337, when we are running the kitchen and dinette slides in or out, there is a loud ratcheting noise at the end. I immediately take my finger off the switch when this happens, but it's unnerving and sounds like something is breaking. This does not happen on the bedroom slide. When I asked our dealer about it, he said that was normal.

I'm very curious if it really is normal. On my last fifthwheel, the slide made the same noise. However, the dealer made some ajustments, and the noise went away. I'd sure hate to damage the slide mechanism if this is abnormal. Does anyone else experience this?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Normal. The bedroom slide has a different kind of mechanism. I watch both the kitchen slide and the living room slide and stop them when they are almost in or out and then bump the switch slightly until they are fully in or out. Otherwise you get the ratcheting sound.

That is a safety clutch so you don't over extend the slides. Should do it when running in as well.

The bedroom slide is Lippert/Schwintek, and totally different.

Yes, that's normal. It's a clutch slipping so that the motor doesn't overdrive the slide out. It's good to take your finger off the switch right away. It doesn't hurt to give the clutch a rest.

Ah-ha! A clutch. I envisioned I was stripping gears. That explains a lot. Thanks much.
