I had a gooseneck, using my Ford puck system, but learned that the stressors (at least based on the gooseneck system I had) on the trailer were great so I changed back to a "regular" fifth wheel hitch. I'm no longer able to lift out one of these monsters without much difficulty and my short wife had to get up on a step stool to help me. It became pretty dicey. So I purchased the two piece B&W companion. Now I can get the unit out of my truck with relative .. emphasis on the word "relative", ease, one piece at a time.

Another feature I really like about it is that you can actually see the jaws open or closed on it.

The Andersen looks like a pretty good solution, too.

I use the Andersen Ultimate in my 2016 GMC Denali. Love it...not issues whatsever with a compromised turning angle. I can easily make a 70 degree turn. The ability to hit a 90 degree turn is overrated....I’ve never had to even come close to a 90. The Andersen is easy to install and remove/store. I store it in the front compartment of my 310GK when I remove the hitch from the truck.

I'm going to archive this information as we will eventually step up to a 5er when we go full time. I dont know anything about 5th wheel hitches except that you need a slider for a short bed truck.
Was looking at new 1 ton pickups and wondered if using what comes with the OEM max tow package which includes the 5th hitch was good enough. Maybe not? Goose neck style or other whatever its called style.

Once we go full time I dont know how many times I will need to remove the hitch from the bed. We will not use the truck to haul anything else but the 5th wheel, but you never say never, right?

Thank You for posting this, I need it

Looking for feedback from those of you with Anderson hitches. I’m currently running a Reese 16k (rail mount). I want a new hitch that drops into the Reese rails. Does the Anderson eliminate the chucking? TIA.

guys I know its annoying sometimes to educate a newbe, but what is chucking? I've got a lot to learn when we go full time with a 5th wheel.

Any hitch with a rigid attachment between the 5th wheel and truck will not address chucking.

I don't have a technical answer for you but chucking happens when driving on an uneven road surface. It's the up and down and fore/aft motion that gets transferred from the 5th wheel to the truck if you use a hitch with a rigid attachment point. It feels like the truck and 5th wheel are pushing/pulling against each other. It's REALLY annoying. I'm not a mechanical engineer but you have to absorb that motion with something in order to eliminate the chucking and a rigid mounted hitch has no provision to do that.

There is a stretch of I-5 just north of Sacramento, CA that REALLY induces chucking. It's a long raised concrete roadway with expansion joints.

If you want to eliminate chucking you need a hitch and/or pin box with air bags and/or shocks or some other device that absorbs this motion. This is what I use:

A lot of folks will claim their hitch eliminates chucking even though it's a rigid mount. I'll let you do the math on that one...

Hey Brian - GREAT video to explain what "chucking" is. I can almost "feel" the push/pull to my regular hitch, just watching the video. Is this your rig? . . . since it looks to be a Reflection.

Hi Rob. Yes, that's our rig. Although the video shows some motion when leaving our storage lot, the road I was on while driving to our house is actually in really good shape. Some day I'll set up my GoPro and use it on the stretch of I-5 north of Sacramento to show what true chucking is :-)
