We arrived at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area on May 30thwhich is in the Pisgah National Forest just south of Asheville, NC. The trip from Grindstone campground in VA had some long uphill and downhill grades...definitely a real workout for the truck. The campground sites are very nice for 50A full hook-up...very easy to get spoiled with the full hook-up.
The campground is in the middle of a vast network of mountain bike trails. I’ve ridden some with Vitus running alongside and sticking to the forest roads and wide, flat trails. I’ve ridden some of the trails alone that are rated easy but are plenty enough challenge for me with steep grades, rocks and tree roots. There’s a lake that stocked with trout though I haven’t tried fishing...it would have been nice to take Vitus swimming in it but there’s lots of geese here and goose poop everywhere.
Monica broken wrist is much better...not wearing the plasticcast as much and using her right hand a lot more. It will be a long process before it’s back to normal...don’t expect her to be able to bike ride ‘til the fall if then. We’re doing some walks and she’s reading lots of books...her favorite activity!
We’ve picked unwanted passengers...damn mice! I think they have gotten into the utility area in the camper’s basement by the low point drains...the only area where I see an opening that requires some foam. From that area, it got into one of the lower hutch drawers that has Vitus’s treats. I put some traps out and snagged 2...hopefully that's all of the little buggers.
We had the chance to do a drive along a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. There’s some tunnels and overlooks that are very nice. There’salso some hiking trails that you can access from the Parkway that would be worth exploring. We’re wishing that we had a few more days here to better explore the area... another time.
Of course there’s no wifi connection in the park...I have to go the MacDonalds or a library for that.
We’re heading out the Breaks Interstate Park which is on theKentucky/Virginia border on Thursday, June 5th.

So sorry to hear about Monica's wrist, hope she heals real fast.
BTW, you sure know how to pick some great sites!

I was just thinking that also, Steve.
That site is as beautiful as the others. I love all the trees, and the mountain views are just fantastic.
Tell Monica that one of my favorite activity when camping is reading also! I'm glad to hear she's doing better
Hope y'all continue to travel safely.Renee & Bill -- Central Louisiana

I used to travel West Virginia quarterly when I worked. It's an incredibly beautiful state--one that's been overlooked because it's slightly off the beaten path.
Have a great time, and remember it's downhill all the way to Virginia.

We arrived at Breaks Interstate Park on June 5th...the road to the park had some steep grades and very twisty...more for sports cars! We found a nice back in site in loop C as the photo shows. We’re being spoiled with full hook up sites. The park has some fanastic overlooks into the 1000’ deep river gorge that the park is named after. The park roads have been great to bike as a there’s little traffic. The hiking trails are also very nice though quite steep in parts.
Moving on to Watoga State Park on June 11th and then heading home on the 16th. We’ve already wishing that we could extend our trip!

hopefully the trip continued well. Regarding the mice, we first posted this problem last year when our Solitude was new. No help from the dealership or GD. When we took a factory tour this past spring a service rep said he would come out to our campground to do a little inspection, he never showed. Long story short, we continue to have mice get in. My wife now see shadows and thinks it's another mouse. We have 5 traps around the interior with each trip and place poison blocks underneath the trailer (which I pick up when we leave). Obviously quite a hassle. We've caulked and spray foam where I see an opening, but they still manage to get in. Any help anyone? Sorry to go on and rant, we do love the camper. It's just something we never experienced before with previous, less costly campers.
