    Our First Trip

After looking at our camper in the driveway for the last 5 months, we're heading out tomorrow (May 7th) for a 6 week trip to WVa,VA, NC and KY. I've checked as many things as I could so hopefully, there won't be too many surprises.

I'll update the thread when we have a connection.

    Happy, happy, happy...

Sounds like a nice trip Dave...are y'all driving straight on to the area or stopping along the way?

Hope your 1st trip is safe, fun and comfortable, and eventful, but only in a good way!

Our first stop is Watoga SP in WVa...we've usually drive there one shot about 11 hrs with stops. The other campgrounds are only 3-4 hours from each other. We're stopping at Watoga again on the way back and then straight home from there.

Have a great/safe trip. The little that I know about you just from our forum communication I don't think that you left much to chance. Keep us posted along the way.

We made it to Watoga State Park in WVa...camper towed very nice. I could tell the weight of it once we hit the mountains and the long, uphill grades. Overall the combo tows just fine. I had an issue with the front landing gear motor...it really labored and eventually quit while just lifting off the hitch...had to raise it with the manual crank. The fuse blows as soon as you touch either raise or lower. My multimeter has a continuity test which alarmed when tested across the electric motor leads...assuming a short in the motor winding. A call to JD in warranty and a new motor is on it's way...thanks GD for the quick response!

I've attached a few pictures of our campsite. I'll try to post and check in later...no WiFi in the park.

That site looks great. I am curious how the bikes did on that long trip. What bike rack are you using and which bumper attachment did you go with. I know that Janice recommended one in another thread, is that the one you used?

    Thanks in advance.

It a Swagman 3 bike carrier though I only ever had 2 bikes on it. I had this on our last camper...a Rockwood 5ver for 4 years of camping and had no issues. I think the bumper construction and attachment is much better on the Reflection than the old camper so I not worried. Just to note, the carrier is locked into the receiver with 2 lock nuts so there's no movement/flexing of the carrier with the bikes mounted. It's what I've done...your mileage may vary!
