Thread: Awning Coming Off???

We went to our trailer yesterday and after reading about this problem, sure enough our is coming apart in the front. The awning light does not work now, it worked once, the first time we used it. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. We are getting ready for a 2 week trip and don't have time to leave it at the dealer for a month. Will it hurt it to drive down the highway with it coming apart like that?

It seems that every day or two I see another post regarding the awning coming loose on the Reflections. It seems to be occurring only on the Reflection product line from what I can see, which tells me there's a manufacturing processs issue.. When I look at the "Manufacturer's Corner", I don't see nearly as many posts about the problem. Grand Design looks closely at that "Manufacturer's Corner" section. I would suggest to all with this issue to post there. At least it will help make GD aware of the issue so they can review their processes as well as get those owners with the issue taken care of. Even better, maybe they already know about it and have fixed the process. Let's hope so. I don't mean to butt in on this thread but GD can't fix the problem if they don't know about it.

Just wondering for the people that have had slide toppers put on are the rails that hold the topper material against the rv wall coming loose at all. Wondering if they where put on the same way as the canopy rail.

So I have a question for Reflection owners. Does your awning arms retract tight against the camper or do they stick out a little bit at the top. Ours are about an inch or so from the side of the camper in the full retract position. Should the be all the way back? I looked at a Solitude today at the dealer but it is a different awning it appears than we have on ours. Those arm were all the way back against the camper wall. I have attached a photo but not sure if you can see what I mean.
Thanks,

I;m not a Reflection guy but from the picture, it looks like the awning is pulled away at least the 1 inch you talk about. Maybe when that's fixed, the arm will be all the way back??

Thompsons, even after it was fixed the arms do not retract all the way. It is like the stop switch needs to be adjusted a little bit to allow it to return a little more.

Ours looks like the picture, away from the side wall. I always thought that was odd, the way it sets when retracted.

I don't think that there's a stop switch...eventually the 15A fuse would blow...this could be contributing to the problem you see. If the outer awning arm is having trouble fitting over the inner one due to alignment, the torque of the motor is pulling the awning rail off the camper if the retract switch is held.

Ours is the same. Looked at another on the lot and it was also the same. The size of the rolled up awning will limit how far the arms can retract. I don't think it is an alignment problem but you might have a point about too much tension being put on the rail instead of the the arms when the awning is retracted if the switch is held too long.
Maybe there needs to be a stop switch to prevent this.Nick and Nancy
