Not only have I seen folks wash out their sewer hose with their fresh water hose (even sticking it inside) but I've seen them use the water spigot too!!

I figured this might be a controversial mod. But everyone has to do what they are most comfortable with.

I wonder...if you take a separate hose connected to the same water spigot that ones potable water hose was previously connected to, is the general water supply at the same risk of contamination? Is the hose at a dump station not connected to the general water supply? Just wondering...

I used to work for a small municipality years ago. I met some of the guys in the sewer dept. one day while they were cleaning a wet well. They wore rain pants and rubber boots for protective gear, no rubber gloves or faceshields. When introduced I wouldn't shake their hands, they laughed. They were some of the healthiest guys that worked there.

That said, I carry a mild bleach solution in a spray bottle and spritz the hose bib before connecting, spritz the slinky ends and fittings after rinsing, hit the hose bib when I disconnect for the next guy, wear rubber gloves, use separate hoses, wash hands, etc. I still feel kinda yucky after I'm done though.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. The sewer has to be sanitary. Why else would they call it a sanitary sewer?

Really like your setup. Cross contamination can’t be a issue. No matter what hose you use you just cross contaminated the source campground water. That’s why at dump stations they required to have non-potable water for tank flushing. As a old farm boy I can tell you we ate our sandwich in some bad places. You guys that are really clean with no bad bacteria will be the first to go in the global pandemic outbreak. This reminds me that I need to go eat those donuts my wife tossed in the trash yesterday .

I agree. Like they always say use it or loose it. Goes for your immune system too.

I guess I am not sure why the hose Bibb doesn't get contaminated so I like the ideal of spritzing with lysol or bleach BUT ... if the contamination can back up into the hose can't it also backup into the inside of the Bibb ? How do we sanitize that ?? I use a hose splitter with a well marked black side and separate hose and keep the "black" splitter valve closed until my drinking hose is disconnected and then soak and splash everything with a mild Clorox solution and rinse well. Still not real sure. Does anyone use an inline backflow valve like required at my house ?

I do believe there is a back flow valve at the high point in that line...usually behind the shower controls.
