When we came back from 'Nam we weren't exactly welcomed home. We didn't expect to be thanked, and we weren't. Even today, I'm kind of taken aback when someone sees my disabled vet truck tags and thanks me for my service.

So I can't tell you what the little gestures like Lowes discount means to me. I'm so glad that the kids coming home today are getting the respect and thanks they deserve.

    Well done, Lowes.

Let me know how it goes re getting the ID card, I have tried several times to get one and haven't even gotten a response from the VA. Maybe I was contacting the wrong place or something. Where did you apply? I do carry a certified copy of my DD 214 in the truck when we travel and have used it here and there.
    Thanks

1st I tried https://www.vets.gov/ and after finally getting my identity verified thru ID.me I get an error when trying to apply for VIC Veteran ID Card.
"We couldn’t find your records with that information.
    Please call the Vets.gov Help Desk at 1-855-574-7286, TTY: 1-800-877-8339. We're open Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (ET)."
Once I spoke to a rep he sent me to https://eauth.va.gov/accessva/ which has VIC as one of the icons to choose & I was able to complete an application.
Received an email on same day: The status of your request for a Veteran Identification Card (VIC) has changed to REVIEW REQUIRED. We will review your VIC request and send you an email after the review is complete.

I was just checking on it online now as I'd only applied last month on June 5th.
That's where it stands right now. I don't see a way to check on the status. www.vets.gov does finally show my Navy service under my profile, so that's a bit of progress.

    Well done, Lowes.

    Too many similarities.

    Same truck/trailer combo
    Was “Over there” 68-69 USAF
Service Connected Disabled but no disabled tag

My wife’s first job out of College was working as a RN at the AF base hospital I was stationed at after retuning. Later she worked as a Nurse for the VA for 30 years.

I get warm feeling every time the Lowe’s cashier said “thank you for your service”

When I came back from overseas I was having lunch at Atlanta airport A guy came up and paid for my food and said thank you. Now I pick up checks for Service men when I see them at restaurants and say “Thank you for your service”. When they say I don’t have to do that I tell them to remember this and in another 50 years please do the same. Pay it forward.

Agree about Lowe’s. Last year I needed a new refrig for the House. Lowes didn’t have the one we wanted without waiting 6 weeks, but Home Depot did for the same sale price so I reluctantly went to Home Depot. You guessed it, it’s on sale so we don’t give the military discount. I said, bye bye and went to Best Buy and they matched the Home Depot price and gave me the 10 percent and delivered it the next day. 😁

Being a 100% disabled veteran I get 50% off camping in Virginia, 50% off all entry fees in Florida parks. There"s a lot of discounts out there if you just look. Google Veteran discounts and they will tell you of lot's of them in all of the state's.
