Here in Washington state, the licence fees aren't too bad BUT we get hit with about a 8.75% sales tax (varies a little depending on the county you purchase in) when purchasing a car, boat, or RV.

Remind me to never move to Virginia. Virginia is not for Lovers. It's for Tax Payers.

And I left Indiana in 1974--never to return again. License plates were expensive there, but car insurance sure was cheap on my 71 Challenger.

I live near Frederickburg VA ans my personal property tax is $1200 per year. My tags are a permanent plate, only paid once when purchased.

Oh and the truck is another $1200 dollars a year for personal property tax in Virginia where I live. They like to rip us for recreation.

Yes Virginia is an expensive place to register your vehicles. I am seriously considering moving my truck and trailer registration to SD. The money I save could pay for a couple of vacations.

Have heard that Virginia is one of those states that will find out if you register in another low/no tax state, and they will come after you. The fines more than make up the savings you would have had. Notice I said would have had. States are cash strapped for $$ now, and they are getting pretty sneeky about finding people who don't pay. It must be noted that I live in Virginia Beach, VA and yes I HATE the high price I have to pay to live here. But on the other hand, I am from TN, and while they don't have personal property tax, the final sales tax on most everything you buy is almost 10% now, at least in my home town area, and wages are less than here, so its a wash. "You pays you money and you takes your chances", the carnival barker once said.

My brother-in-law, who is in the automotive business has his vehicle registed in SD. I haven't checked it out personally so this is hearsay, but he claims it is perfectly legal. They just bought a new FR Vengeance 39B12 toy hauler and he plans on registering it in SD also. Yes you certainly do "pays you money and you takes your chances". I have a lot of toys and the total personal property taxes I paid for 2013 totaled over $1400.00. That was before the new tow vehicle and trailer. I'm sure that will go up this year. The Sandpiper cost me $796.27 last year. I'm sure my GD is going to be over the 1K mark.

Well, I won't be moving to Virginia any time soon. Now I don't feel so bad about my Ad Valorem taxes.

Our fee here in Michigan for our Reflection was $200.00 but that is just a one time fee as it is a permanent plate. I thought our sale tax was high but I see it's not as high as others, it's at 6%.

In New Hampshire my Reflection 303 to be will cost me about $1000 a year for plates and taxes! And to think it sits for six months a year on the side of my house {winter}. We register with our birth month. No other way around when its July! Also over 10,000lbs gross weight you have to get a inspection sticker. Dealer gets around $60. My property taxes are around $4500 a year. No sales or income tax in New Hampshire. One way or another they get their $$$$. But for all the fun we have camping it's worth every penny! I always say if we don't spend it while we are alive the kids will have a great time spending it when we are gone!
