Here is another way of adding additional brake lights. The wiring is right behind them and easily accessible. I only wired up the brake light so it would be more of an attention-getter when turning or braking. They are nice and bright and a great mod. They are mounted in aluminum channel.

I'm installing a set of these now and used the exact same ones a couple of years ago (earlier GD). I like these because they have a channel in the back and there is not a sleeve sticking out....

Great idea. I might try these on my trailer. My bike rack with the bike tires partially blocks the brake lights at some angles. What kind of material are the channels you used screwed into. On my trailer it looks and sounds like it may be wood covered in a plastic sheathing. Maybe a 2 X ? running the width of the trailer. The coroplast is attached using staples so I don't think it can be steel.

Not knocking this idea at all, but I’m considering a different route for my bike rack. I’m going to mount two of the bar lights on the bike rack crossbar. I’ve installed a 4-wire trailer connector with a brake light strobe on the trailer, and will use the trailer side connector to connect the lights when the rack is connected. I want another set up higher so the people behind the person behind me can see the lights.

Thanks! I was doing a little research since posting and saw these light kits that can be attached to my bike rack (Swagman Dispatch) bottom rail using the mounting bracket referenced in the 3rd link. I have a 4 way connector next to my hitch receiver. I like this idea because I could move the bike rack with lights to my truck if I wanted to bike somewhere away from the campground. Since the truck is a little narrower the bikes block the tail lights even more. I could make up the lights and harness a little cheaper since these brackets and lights are sold on Amazon too and seem to fit standard oval 6" lights. The brackets should also work for installing 6" oval lights where RVing in Michigan installed the bar lights if I decide to go that route.

More good ideas. I’ve been on hold going forward on mine because I back the trailer in very close to the wall over the winter and I haven’t moved it out this year so I can mount the rack and see how things fit.

The aluminum channel is 1.5" x 1" with 1/8" thickness. light fits in nicely. I can't remember where I bought it.
