Lightbulb (NEW) Micro Air Easy Start Install Video (microair easystart)

One of the couples I follow on YouTube did a video just a couple days ago, on installing the Easystart,
and I thought it would be very helpful to anyone that might find electrical work daunting.

The only part of it I disagree with is he used electrical tape on a couple areas I would have used heat-shrink.

Looking seriously at installing one of these. The difficulty is I do not have 30 or 50 amp power at the house to do the 5 starts required before connecting to a generator. Not sure how I get around this unless I do the install while camping and hooked up.

I installed one while connected to a 20 amp circuit in my garage. Actually, that 20 amp circuit ran a 15k AC without the Microaire. Your household current can sustain the needed startup amperage much longer than a generator can.

I have seen some install videos and people that have installed them really like the ability to be able to use a smaller gen, but is there any downside, such as the life of the compressor? Does the compressor see basically the same starting current and the spike is handled by the microair circuitry instead of passing it all at once to the generator?

No downside to the EasyStart. See my page at http://www.klenger.net/easystart.html for my installation and thoughts.

I'll add a link to the video posted above to my web page.

No, the EasyStart controls the current and voltage to the air conditioning compressor on startup.

EasyStart is a Soft Motor Starter, Eaton - Soft Starter vs VFD.
Soft Starters probably extend the life of motors.

I would have to utilize a heavy duty extension cord from a standard garage wall outlet??

I have no problem powering up the trailer and running the A/C using a 75' long construction grade extension cord plugged into a 20amp outlet in my garage then, tie into the 30amp cord with an adapter.

It would be helpful to know from the MFG if the learning process can be repeated, or if the learning process is a continuous process.

I had the same issue when I installed mine that the only immediate power option I had was my Honda EU3000i Handi generator. I started each AC unit one time from the generator after I installed the Soft Start kits just to make sure that the AC units worked, and then performed the rest of the learning process on the next camping trip when we had campground power.

I talked to their engineer a number of times when we were trying to run a 15K AC on a Champion 2000 (didn't work) and I didn't get the impression that the learning process was that critical. I did five startups on a 20 amp connection then used a variety of generators and power connections.

Even though I couldn't run on a Champion 2000 gen even with the Microaire and they offered to let me return the unit, I kept it just because the AC started so much easier. I was disappointed in the gen, but not the Microaire. Good people to deal with, too.

FWIW, they did say that a Honda 2000 would run a 15K AC.
