Best of luck to your daughter and to the parents that will be anxiously watching and bitting their nails. Which discipline?

I enjoyed 20 years of drag racing if that counts.....A few of the cars I owned during those years. Sold out in 2014 to start camping with my wife and daughter. Spending time with them meant more for me. Dont regret it a bit.

To fulfill the urge though, I took up a hobby of building carts outside my normal job. #27 rolls out this weekend....

I had some nice 60s muscle cars back in the day. A 62 Corvette was my best chick magnet, my 66 Mustang fast back with the solid lifter Hi PO 289 handled well with some mods, but my hammer, win money street drag racing was my 68 Plymouth GTX with a 440 magnum engine that my dad and I built up into mid 400hp. I would run Mickey Thompson "Street Slicks" and won a lot of money at $20 a race. The big secret was to run those slicks to be able to put the HP down. Out of town guys would roll in with their "Yenko" or "Baldwin Wallace" 427's and 454 Chevelles and would sit and burn while i hooked up and was gone. It was like driving a NASCAR car on the street. Big block Mopars ruled the streets back in Ohio and they were bullet proof with forged cranks and 727 torque flights. One hundred octane gas was 23 cents a gallon. We thought those days would never end.
I only remember two losses, one by a fender to some out of towners in a sleeper 68 Cutless that I suspect had a built "stage 455", the other in a rolling start (60 mph) run with a Hemi Roadrunner. The Hemis were not that quick in stoplight or 1/8 mile, but when those 2 four barrel fed heads started breathing, nothing could run with them once they hit 100.

Used to run my 67 GTO Wednesday night grudge runs and Sundays at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. 400/360HO with his and hers shifter. Would leave rubber in all gear shifts. That car was fun and turned low 13s. Put factory disc brakes, Hooker headers, and a Thermo Quad carb on it. Got over 20 mpg too!

The 70 Vette was one of a kind. Chevy was going to introduce a 454 LS7 and built some crate engines as well as stocked parts for it, then decided never to put it in a commercially available car. I bought the car from the parts manager at a large Chevy dealer who ordered the crate and all parts before Chevy pulled the plug. 456 rear and close ratio that car was unreal.

There's a story behind the 68 vette as my wife is telling our first born how dumb his daddy is. Had a slight swampy area at the house and got the garden tractor stuck. No problem says I - vette has a posi rear. Got that stuck too. Had to pull everything out with the Merc wagon.

The 88 Supra was a turbo, targa, 5 spd and just plain fun to drive. Also had a 92 version.

A '67 Goat 389 TriPower covertable has always been my dream car for me to own..... I owned a '67 Lemans with 326 Powerglide in '70s. Had a friend who owned a '71 GP total his car, and swapped the 326 powerglide out for his 400 CI w/400 Turbo and it made that Lemans come to life! Another quick point, that pontiac was one heck of a great car for traveling thru any weather. No matter how much snow on the highway, that car tracked true and would plow throw it with out any issues. Never got it stuck, loved that car - wish I still had it.
