1966 GTO I bought new. Ordered this car with the tri-power option..close ratio 4 speed and 3.90 limited slip rear. It also had the handling package with metallic brakes in the front plus the transistorized ignition that was a big deal back then. No power steering or brakes and no AC..just the engine. I later put some MT headers and installed a Isky 310 hydraulic cam and kit. Also had the heads re-worked..went from running B/Stock to SS/C after the engine mods and ran a best of 12.7 @109 mph. Ran it everyday on the street but managed to get too many tickets and was about to lose my insurance and license so I sold it. Had over 50K miles in a little over 3 yrs.

Your post and picture brings back some memories. A girl I dated a few times back in the day drove a light brown/black interior 66 GTO 390 tri-power 4 speed. I do not recall what other mods. it had if any. It was her father's car but since I was a car guy (67 Camaro which I still have) he let me drive it. It was fun to drive and pretty darn lively. These stories makes one wonder what happened to the car and where may it be today !

The muscle cars were fast during that era but can't compete with these generic looking cars of today! My younger brother had a 1969 Nova SS 396 350 hp with a 4 speed that he bought new..Hooker headers and Lakewood traction bars. Cragar SS wheels with Positraction tires. He had 4.10 gears and I still would beat him! We both had our cars in the garage and my poor dad had to keep his outside. He had a Volvo P1800 that I could never figure out why he bought it! In between classes in college we would practice our speed shifting on a road going through a canefield. These pics are from late '66 or early '67.

Nice old hot rod cajun couple! The new stuff may be faster but they just don't have the cool personality those old cars had.

You got that right!! The imported car's were not too popular with the younger crowd in the 60's. Ford..Mopar and GM mostly ruled the streets back then. I grew up in the New Orleans area so cruise night was just about every night...French Quarter..Lakeshore Drive and the drive in movies were at their peak. The oil industry was going full boom and money was there to burn!!

Thanks!! I bought those wheels around November of '65..they were the deep reverse ones and the tires were hard to fit. Whitewalls were still in vogue back then! I had cut-out's and cherry bomb glass packs on this car. 327 with a 4 bbl and 3 speed on the floor with a Hurst shifter. Beer barrel shift knob attracted attention also. Years ago we tinted glass with cans of spray tint and I did every window including the windshield. I worked 2 summers in '64 and '65 at a seaplane base to save money to buy this car with the help of my dad. See you're in San Antonio...spent my 6 weeks basic at Lackland in early 1969. Went back there a few times on vacation with the wife...nice city.

I got these in the garage.
The 68 belongs to my wife
Then she has the 12 Taurus SHO
I have the 99 Crown Vic. It was my mom's car we bought her and when she passed i took the car back
Then My 07 GT500. I ordered this car and let me tell you there is a long story attached to this car.
If I ever decide to sell this car it will have to be a special guy to buy it. I got the car in early September when they first came out.
