    "Wood" Defects

We now have several pieces of "Wood" in our 337's kitchen and bath that are starting to wrinkle. After further investigation, what appeared to be stained wood were actually pieces of wood covered with contact paper. The contact paper is wrinkling and bubbling. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 1000 miles from my dealer so repairs are out of the question right now. Even when I get back home, I'm not sure my dealer is capable of repairing defects such as this. In some locations, it appears the cabinets will have to be completely disassembled in order to perform repairs.

    Jim,
I also have a 337 so am familiar with the construction of these. The cabinet doors are wood; the rest of the cabinets, the crown moulding, and the door trim are all a pressed wood product with "contact paper" surfacing. These may bubble some and it is very easy to nick through the paper.

I do not know of any trailer in this price range that has solid wood cabinets and trim. I could have spent $20-25,000 more to purchase such a trailer--Excel Winslow and Arctic Fox are two that appear to have solid wood cabinets.

It is possible that your dry climate has caused your bubbles to appear so soon. Let us know what your dealer does to help you.

I know what you are taking about Tucsonjim. I found the trim around the refrigerator wrinkling and took my rubber laminate roller to it and was able to make it look right again. Still looks goog but keeping my eye on it.

I have the same issue in our 2015 303. I had the trailer at the dealer for 6 months trying to get it fixed. AlI they did was use a heat gun in an attempt to re-stick the tape which did not work. GD was able to see that had the issue listed at each service attempt and agreed to cover given their supply agreed to do so from other complaints.

    Tucson Jim,
We still haven't heard back from our dealer yet but, they stated they would check with GD. Have they fixed your yet? If so, how? I live in a very rural area and this will be costly for us to take back.

In February of 2015, Grand Design took the coach back to Indiana for extensive repairs of the cabinets and other flaws. They replaced the cabinets, and we didn't have an issue after that. The explanation was that the wood in the cabinets was not dry, and when it got to Arizona, it dried out and the covering wrinkled. Of course that was until we tried to kiln dry them ourselves in August of this year.

Update from earlier comment. I had the crinkling Hutch Styles as well. Justin was able to have the styles assembled and shipped, I needed 2 they sent all. The cabinet construction is fairly straightforward. I'll change them out come spring.

The construction is wood with what looks like pressed paper attached to the wood and then the lament/tape.
