    Dining tabletop

We decided to get rid of the glass in the dining table. Here is a pic of how it turned out. The wife LOVES it and that's what matters. It's a piece of 3/16 ply glued down with some construction adhesive. Stained it first then a few coats of urethane.

    Andy & Julie...

That looks terrific! We saw a 369 that had small mosaic tiles in the table. It looked great but I like your idea better.

My wife was curious what everyone was doing with this. She is starting a montage of our camping adventures. She thought of starting back in the tent camping days working our way through all the great trips with the kids, now the grandkids and the main picture of our Solitude in the dead center. I will post when she is done

I thought about the tiles but couldn't find tile thin enough. I also was worried about cracking since the backing board is pretty thin and flexable (especialy in the center part of the table). The ply was pretty easy and I had a smaller extra piece to test stain colors on. Wife wanted lighter color for contrast. I wanted darker................guess who ended up being right??

I agree about the grout cracking. Plus I don't want to worry about the grout getting stained or dirty. I do have to agree with Julie regarding the lighter color of the wood... sorry Andy.

That looks awesome, thank you for sharing. When we first saw the glass we were a bit perplexed, I can see it being a nightmare to keep clean among other things.

Thanks to all for the kind words. It was kind of a pain keeping the glass clean not to mention the little pieces of crud that would get under it. I'm not much of a wood worker but this was pretty easy stuff even for me. The biggest challenge was keeping the dust and flying critters off of the wet varnish. Had to tweeze a few of the little buggers off and feather out the body imprints a couple of times.
