    Question How are they built

Before I found GD we've been looking at many RV and really liked the Keystone line. One of the things I really liked we're the videos showing how they were built. When I saw the aluminum studs in the walls and the solid foam insulation I figured I had found a winner. To me having wood studs and fiberglass insulation in the walls as most manufactures do made no sense. I could accept the floor being wood since it was marine grade although I admin a non-wood wood floor would be wonderful.

Anyway, I've been looking for a similar video from GD which would let me see how you go about building them. Do you follow what you did at Keystone and use aluminum studs and solid foam insulation or do it some other way? All of this goes into making a very large purchase second only to our home.

    Thanks
    John

They are built with aluminum studs and solid foam insulation in the walls.

Floor and roof are still wood studs, as metal in them can conduct heat and cold, and could cause condensation to form, since they are not laminated structures.

John - if you do some searching on this forum, I believe there are a couple of video interviews and shots of the manufacturing process. I didn't look for you but memory suggests maybe it was by RV Business or something like that. They are informative. We came from a Keystone Avalanche 2011 320RK and we were not going to buy for a couple of years yet - we went to a RV show and saw the Grand Design and were so impressed, we bought early. We are NOT regretting our decision.

The video I looked at didn't show enough to really tell.

The Momentum we looked at was really nice. Good headroom in the bedroom area which I like since I'm 6' 2 1/2". The only time the headroom got short was when I stepped into the shower. GD uses one that have a floor raised about 3" so my head got up close and personal with the ceiling.

Got a call from Jorden who is the west coast factory sales rep who lives not that far away from us.

He answered all of my question including features I was wanting which will be in units coming well before we would be buying. Talked about features and construction. The only thing I forgot to ask is why only two axels. Also talk to him about some ideas that I had for ours when we get it and what would make them easier to install.

I also gave him some ideas for the web site which would make comparing different floor plans even across different models. Think of a page that lists all of the models floor plans then check boxes so you could select the ones you want to compare. That would then bring up a web page with those floor plans all in the same scale so direct comparisons would be possible. So you could compare a Momentum 385TH to a Solitude 369RL side by side and in scale.

So much thanks to Jorden and Grand Designs RV for giving me some of their precious time today.

    Hi @stormy,

A "construction" video is currently under development, and we hope to have it available soon.

    Best regards,

I'll look forward to that as well. I've been trying to find information on the frame construction. I did find it odd that the axles used are all over the map. I'm just not used to seeing axles less than 6000# in the other mid profiles I had been researching. Still cannot tell if they are 8" or 10" I-beam construction or otherwise.
