    What to do about Insurance?

We are new to RVing, and as I've posted before, we bought a 2014 Reflection 303RLS and a new truck, but I'm at a loss because of our inexperience of what kind of insurance to get for the 5th wheel and what limits do you get? Temporarily I added it to our auto plan with Allstate. But our agent didn't seem experienced. How about some suggestions please. Thanks Mike

This is going to be an interesting thread to follow. I think you are going to get plenty of suggestions on what company to go with since there are so many out there.

My suggestion would be to take your time, since you already have coverage, and look at all the suggestions you get and find the one that meets your needs. With that being said, we use Blue Sky Ins. and are very happy with them. They specialize in RV insurance and also offer road side assistance. We have only filed one claim with Blue Sky and they handled it with no problems. Here is our coverage:

    Comprehensive
    Collision
    Replacement Purchase Price Coverage
    Total Loss Deductible Buy Back
    Awning Replacement
    Personal Effects $2000.00
    Vacation Liability $25,000.00
    Emergency Expense $750.00

With a $500.00 deductible, our premium is $507.00 per year with an additional $72.00 for Road Side Assistance. Keep in mind this is on a Solitude 369RL. Good luck and happy hunting.

We use Geico. They have a dedicated staff for RVs. No idea whether RV claims are handled well, but in 2 instances our auto coverage exceeded expectations. Warren Buffett is seldom wrong, right?

I agree with Steve, for us Allstate was a little bit more then Blue Sky, BUT didn't offer replacement coverage. The replacement coverage was a big plus!! We didn't get the roadside assistance because we have it with Good Sam, and have used it twice that has saved enough to pay for the roadside assistance with them.

On our previous fifth wheel we got a quote from State Farm (where we have 3 vehicles, one house, and a blanket liability policy), and our agent said he recommended our RV insurer for the better coverage and lower price.

We have National Interstate. We have not made any claims.

    Here is our coverage:

    Comprehensive
    Collision
    Total Loss Replacement
    Awning Replacement
    Personal Effects $5000.00
    Emergency Expense $750.00 each occurrence
    Vacation Liability $100,000.00
Towing and Roadside Labor (reasonable expense)

We have $1000 deductible (diminishing). This is $323 / year on a 303

I would call Good Sam, they have great rates and represent several different companies, plus they specialize in RV insurance.

Don't know if anyone is interested, but here are the results of insurance quotes for our new Reflection 303RLS. All quotes are based on the same criteria, $1000 deductible on both Comprehensive and Collision. Diminishing Deductible on both if available. Replacement/Purchase price coverage, Total Loss Buy Back, Awning Replacement, $2000 in personal effects, 25000 vacation liability, and 750 emergency expense. We have Good Sam's roadside assistance so that was not quoted.

I got quotes from five RV specific insurance agencies, and sent all of them plus two others online quotes.
Explorer RV in Ohio - $673/yr one time payment using National Interstate Insurance
Farm & City in Iowa - $587/yr one time payment using Progressive
RV Solutions in Texas - $692/yr one time payment using Progressive
    Good Sam's - $2002/yr one time payment
RV America in California - $362/yr one time payment

I also contacted Geico, and got no response from my online inquiry.

I furnished my phone number, and if I was at home, I answered the phone, most of the calls registered a 800 number or was listed on my phone as restricted. If I missed a call, no one left a message on my answering machine. I hope this information is helpful. One of the poster's here mentioned RV America, and when I called my dealer yesterday, they also recommended them without any prompting on my part.

    Happy Trails!

Wow, what so wonderful about Good Sam's that they cost three times as much as everyone else? I also wonder about RV America is so much less than everyone else.

What out when giving your number on the online quote services. They tend to just keep calling forever and ever and ever
