Thread: Solar power systems question.

Solar power systems question.
Has anyone installed a Solar panel/Inverter power system in the DG RV? I'm researching systems and just thought I'd seek input from owners that may have already done the math for wattage use for a Solitude 369RL. With that said, any information anyone would like to share about their portable solar systems or roof mounted high wattage type systems would be deeply appreciated. Obviously cost is a factor so information on expandable systems is of great interest.
TIA!!!

PS. Hey Mark H. or Bill F. if one of you see this inquiry...does GD have a recommendations for a solar/inverter systems for the Grand Design RV line? And where can I find information on total wattage needs/usage for a Solitude 369RL with everything that draws current on.

Mounting is the biggest issue. If you do it right you need to keep air space under the panels or they will over heat.
What I would like to see GD offer is a set of railings on each side that go from the front to the back of the RV. These should be at least 4" tall so the installer could run support bars across the roof from one side to the other without touching the roof in the middle. The panels would then attach to these bars. That would keep the panels off the roof and the installer would not have to attach anything to the roof. I would suggest 1" round tubing for the bars with supports every 48".
It would also be nice if the TV antenna and vent pipe were move more toward the center so the sides would be more open. This would allow the solar panels to fit length wise down each side plus a few in the middle if needed.
I'll do a line drawing and post later today.
Update
Having round rails is important since you can use latches that could pivot on the round bars so you can tilt up the panels.Last edited by Timon0x31; 07-03-2014 at 05:52 PM. Reason: More information

That is an outstanding idea... Why even give us a potential violation of the roof warranty... put some provisions in from the plant that makes add ons like satellite antennas and solar panels a bolt on installation without drilling into the roof...

Hi @BratsMonster,
I believe this suggestion was forwarded to our Product Design team back in 2014; however, please feel free to provide new feature recommendations here: http://www.mygrandrv.com/for...ecommendations. We appreciate your feedback!
