    2019 Grand Design RV's 4th Annual Northern California Rally – September 12th to 15th, 2019

Wagonmasters: Jeret & Jennifer Burnett (916-402-7049, [email protected])

The Rally will officially kick off at 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 12th, and end at 6:00 pm, Sunday, September 15th. Most attendees will be reserving their stay from Thursday, September 12th, to Monday, September 16th so they can enjoy all the rallies activities. You are more than welcome to reserve your stay for longer to enjoy more personal socialization time with those that also arrive earlier or depart later. However, if you wish to arrive Wednesday, September 11th, or earlier, or depart Tuesday, September 17th, or later, you will need to contact Durango RV Resort personally to make individual arrangments for your extended time.

When registering, you will be making two selections:

    1. The first selection is the "Rally Registration"; $50. This is per site at Durango or anyone that is planning to attend, whether you are staying at Durango RV Resort, staying elsewhere and just attending during the day, or staying at home and driving in each day, will need to pay this fee to cover any costs that the Wagonmasters will have for incidentals, prizes, meals, and rally party and entertainment.

    2. The second selection, "Select the number of rally nights you are staying"; $50 per night. This is for how many of the rally nights you will be staying at the resort (Sept 12th, 13th, 14th, & 15th). So if you are planning to arrive Thursday, Sept 12th, and depart Monday, Sept 16th, that is a 4-nights stay, so you would select 4. If you are arriving Thursday, Sept 12th, and departing Sunday, Sept 15th, that is only 3-nights stay so you would select 3. If the first selection for "Rally Registration" is showing "JOIN WAITLIST", DO NOT select and pay for your nights stay, it will be refunded immediately. You must join the waitlist first, THEN, when informed by the WagonMaster there is an open site for you, you then pay for your stay.

There will be no refunds after 30 days prior to the rally unless the WagonMasters are able to fill your site.

Please remember also that the rallies are not for the purpose of "getting free repair work" to avoid your dealer. The rallies are for meeting new old friends, seeing old friends, and having a great time!! If you are signing up for a rally with "free work" being your most influential part of the decision to attend or not, you are COMPLETELY missing the reason for the rallies.

It has come about at many rallies all over the country with many people now openly saying they are there for one purpose, free work, and Grand Design sending techs and the dealers for the rallies sending techs, is being taken advantage of and we really do not want to lose this support from them. As you'll see for the question of maintenance issues as part of the registration for the rally, maintenance issues are prioritized as follows, EMERGENCY, SAFETY, RECALLS, ALL ELSE. If you are signing up more than 3 months prior to the rally starting and you put a maintenance issue on your registration... you have PLENTY of time, even with a slow dealer, to get your issue handled before the rally.

And trust me, giving an attitude to the maintenance tech at the rallies because your minor issue is not considered a major priority and was put to the bottom of the list and not gotten too, will not go over well.

Personally, I think the part about getting service should be left out of the registration since we couldn't possibly know about emergency and we should get safety and recall done well before rally time as you mention. Maybe do a list about two months out instead of now. JM2C Thanks

Nope, it’s there if they need to put things down and if they need something added or removed later that can be on an individual bases rather then wait and try to do it all at once. This isn’t my full time job, so I do things that are convenient for me for organizing.

Good morning all, (a tad long-winded, but informative)

As mentioned in a previous post a while ago, Grand Design and the dealers have been very supportive of the rallies with supplying maintenance techs. However, they are only able to do so much and let’s face it, what they can do is ok for rallies that have only 50 or so RV’s attending. But many rallies are two to four times larger than the techs can handle. As the rallies not only continue to grow in size, they are also growing in quantity and it is way beyond the point that the techs can keep up with the demand for every little issue to be handled at the rallies. Many times the techs are working from 6am to 9pm all weekend.

So, with the above said, for the rallies Jenn and I host, the Las Vegas rally will be the last for pre-rally maintenance submissions and starting with our Southern Oregon rally, the techs at the rallies will focus on emergencies, safety, and recalls issues first. And IF, after all those issues are handled and time permits, an announcement at the rally will be made for more issues to be submitted. If you have signed up for one of our rallies besides the Vegas rally and put an issue on your registration, as our other rallies are either 6 months, 10 months, or a year away, yes, you have time to contact your dealer and get just about any and every current issue you have handled prior to the rally you are signup for.

We know that some are going to be burdened by this and not like this way of handling issues at the rallies, or just plain will throw a fit. Please understand that your purchasing or local dealer is your first avenue for getting your issues handled and the techs at the rallies are on hand to support us, not to bypass a dealer. Also, there are some items that will not be handled at the rally at all and may vary depending on the rally. Such as installs (contact the sponsoring dealer directly), things that may cause a mess or be restricted by the resorts (such as wheel bearing repacking, opening the underbelly, and if you have already been to a dealer for an issue, that item may not be dealt with as it needs to be completed by the dealer that started the process.

Many complain about the dealer taking too long and having your RV for weeks. Please remember that the dealer, and we all know that some are just plain better than others, have to figure out what the issue is, get the issue authorized for repair, get parts, and schedule a time to actually do the work. Some dealers do not tell you this, but they do not want your RV on their lot unless it is being worked on because it takes up valuable room. I have never had my RV at the dealer for more than 4 days from drop off to pick up. If your dealer does not do this, YOU should take the initiative to bring it up. When you call for getting an issue looked at, tell them you want to drop it off for only a few days so they can find what is wrong and what is needed to fix the issue and when they have all the parts, they can call you to schedule a time to bring it back in to actually be worked on.
