    Question Front Cap Fade

Has anyone had this happen to their Solitude?
There is an arch shaped paint fade at the top of our front cap. I first noticed it Oct. 2013, but I thought it was just an accent over the logo that I had never noticed before. It has now gotten worse. I got a ladder and checked it out. The pigment seems to be fading. It is smooth to the touch and NOT peeling.
I sent the attached pictures to my dealer and he said he would forward them to GD. Bad thing is I am just two weeks out of warranty! But I feel since this started during the warranty period, it should be covered.
I'm waiting to hear from the dealer but wondered if anyone else had this issue? The bright spot is the sun reflection.

I think I saw one other person post with a similar issue. You can do a search on "fading paint". I would hope that GD will take care of the problem since you are only 2 weeks out of warranty. Good luck.

I would expect GD to address the issue even a few months out of warranty since it's most likely a manufacturing defect they would want to research. They would then go back to their supplier who I suspect has an issue that needs to be addressed.

We have two faded spots on the cap that were pointed out by our dealer on delivery. GD was contacted who in turn put us in contact with the paint shop that GD sub contracts with. We are still working with them to have the problem resolved. Pics are attached.

Yes, we have some spots of fading and also cracks and bubbling. Ours is in the shop right now waiting for GD to approve the repairs. I actually got a call from a gentleman at GD, who saw my original post about the issues and he said to take it to the dealership and the issues would be corrected. So far the shop has not had a response to the repair request..... We had a few other issues repaired while it is at the shop, too. So far GD has been really good about warranty issues, so I hope this front cap will be repaired also. We purchased ours in march of 2014 and our first trip out a few weeks later, we found the front cap issues.

So... My dealer 's service manager hasn't been returning my calls. Since I work near the dealer, I stopped by and walked into his office. He was a little surprised to see me, but I was polite, and didn't ask why he hasn't returned my calls. I just inquired as to the status of the issue, and he said he hasn't heard back from GD yet. Hope to hear something soon.

    Hi Todd and Stephanie (@Toddly),

Grand Design does not show any open repair authorization requests for your Solitude... We will contact the dealership to investigate.

    Best regards,

    Update:
It's been over a month since I posted here and almost two months since I reported this issue to my dealer. I have not heard a word from my dealer or GD.
I have had very few problems with my Solitude and although this issue is not a mechanical problem that keeps me from using the rig, I believe it should have been addressed by now.

    Hi Todd and Stephanie (@Toddly),

Because we use a painted cap vs. dyed gel-coat, this condition is repairable. Oftentimes light buffing with the right compound will correct the concern. We recommend 3M Perfect Machine Polish #06064.

    Best regards,
    ~ Janice
