Just wondering, how do you re-secure screws that have pulled loose? They'd be stripped out wouldn't they?

Wonder whether the screws could be replaced with the rivets they use for attaching to laminate? Should be more secure that the screws...

I believe in one of the earlier posts a dealer used rivets and they were pulling back out almost immediately.

    Paul,
Good information, and sounds like the molly rivets should work. I look forward to your review of the fix.

Hi Mark & Midge (@Not tired, just retired),

We recommend installing a larger diameter screw, and installing additional screws in between the existing screws at the top of the rail.

Rivets are used for the awning arms only, and not the awning rail.

    Best regards,
    ~ Janice

Ours has only been out a few times and it is pulling apart in the front. Hope this can be fixed with out too much trouble. Heading out for a two week trip.

My awning is not as bad as some of the ones shown on this forum.
GD repair is to remove 4 screws from each end of the awning track drill a 3/16" hole where the screws were and install a 3/16" x 1" Molly rivets. They also want some buytal tape under the rail then reseal the rail with silicone caulk. I plan on doing the repair myself. I was told by my dealer to keep receipts for the materials I use and send them to my dealer and I will be reimbursed by GD. I have an email to my dealer late today with a few ?? Before I do the repair in the next day or two time permitting. I will let you all know how it goes. I plan on taking pics of the repairs for the record.
Ok, I'm lost now. In this post GD said to use molly rivets and screws. In a later post from Janice, she said rivets are only used on the arms, and to use larger screws where the screws are pulled out.

The dealer added many rivets to the awning rail and said that that is what the factory recommends as a repair. The rivets are not holding any better than the screws. I am getting confused by the conflicting information.

Janice, is there a backer plate the full length of the awning? Do you have a PDF file from Lippert on the installation of the awning that you can send to me please.

    Thanks,
    Jim

I don't know who J D is from Grand Design is but he or she told my dealer to use Molly rivets in the awning rail in place of the screws as I said in my previous post. Janice said to use larger screws. Hmmmm who is right. I'm leaning towards the rivet repair. As of now I haven't be able to find the Molly rivets at any local hardware stores. I'm going to check at Fastenal tomorrow.
