As far as ajg617, fell in love with Avro Lancasters when I was young - no clue why except all I wanted to do was fly. AJ call letters for RAF 617 Sqdn. G for George was Wing Commander G P Gibson's aircraft on the great dams raid. Not very original - just a WWII aviation nut.
My wife's father and uncle were both RCAF aircrew flying Lancasters. Her father was the Wireless/Air Gunner (WAG), and her uncle the upper turret gunner. Her uncle was with the 431 Iroquois squadron, and flew 30 combat missions. We have a copy of his mission logbook and our thinking of donating it to the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton, Alberta.

A great place to visit when traveling through southern Alberta.

As for my handle, the name of the street where we purchased our first house.

God bless them both - the RCAF suffered terrible losses. I've always wanted to travel through Canada - have a friend in Ottawa and wanted to see the beautiful great north in person and finally view the northern lights, perhaps even the cross Canada rail tour (sacrilege, I know).

I had at one time heard a rumor that the Nanton Lanc might be restored to airworthy. If you ever get south, the Warhawk Museum in Nampa, ID is well worth a visit.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario has an airworthy Lanc. I believe that there are only 2 such planes remaining in the world.

Check out this link, or search 'Rick Mercer Lancaster Bomber'.

I will keep that in mind. We had plans to go down to Idaho, but boarder closures at the time forced the cancellation of that trip.

My father and his brother were both in the army. My uncle was part of the liberation of The Schedlt. My father's overseas posting was in Labrador. You will have be up on your Canadian history to figure that one out.

    Have a great day.

    Very interesting thread.

I was a Army helicopter pilot and flew in Viet Nam. Blaster 84 was my call sign.

When I joined, I had recently installed my Tesla Battery Bank and Solar system.

I wanted a name that was catchy and memorable. I originally thought of "Tesla Powered RV", but, I felt that brought too much attention to the "Tesla" part of my system. Consequentially, I chose "Solar Powered RV". It is both memorable, and catchy. It has also proven to be an appropriate choice as many of my posts focus on Solar and Battery Systems.
