    Hitch - slider or not?

We are taking delivery of our 303 this coming Friday, July 11th and are scheduled to have the dealer install a B&W Companion same time. We are now second guessing whether we need a slider or not. Our road is very narrow so the turn into our drive is a little tight. We can bring a 40' goose neck in, but that does not come anywhere near the cab. The truck is a 2012 F250 crew cab 4WD short bed. Anyone with a similar set up have recommendations? Thanks.

Better safe than sorry. Here is an automatic slider from PullRite and a company with a good price. You can purchase from PPL and have your dealer install. Hope this helps.

They are not cheap but give peace of mind and safety.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

With the set-up noted in our signature, I have a manual slider. I got the camper into some tight back-in sites without the slider where it was more jack-knifed than you'd ever approach going forward and didn't have a problem. The hitch was installed as per Reese's instructions which is 4" in front of the axle centerline. With the B&W Companion, you have 4" of fore/aft adjustment. I'd recommend that you position it as far back as you can but not behind the axle centerline and you'll be fine.

With a short bed PU I automatically assumed I would need a slider, but I've never got to use it! We had a 2004 Cardinal, and now the new GD 337 and even at 90 degrees, it clears great. Someday, maybe I will activate it, just for giggles!! My bigger concern has been with departure angles during a turn...like coming out of a tight gas station...had the rig within a few inches of the PU bed a few times. Although there is adjustment available, both on the hitch and pin box, I am set nice and level right now, and don't want to change unless if becomes an issue.

We have been using our airsafe nonsliding hitch for a little while now with no problems. We have had some tight turns but not on uneven ground. Till then I can not say for sure if we will or not. I do like the ride that we get from this hitch. It absorbs 90% of the jounce and banging from a 5th wheel. Its also better for the truck and the trailer. Before we got it we ran the numbers and we should be okay.

LA Jones not sure what you decided in your solution, but we haul with a Ram crew cab short wheelbase, and have a B&W Companion hitch. Our setup is all the way back, and we've not had a problem. I was going to spring for a slider, but my dealer said with radius corners on the 303 it wouldn't be necessary - and so for he's correct.
