Nose High Towing the 303 RLS

What is Grand Design's answer to the question of: "How nose high can the 303 RLS be towed without compromising the frame, handling, and rear axle?"

We really like the floor plan of the 303 RLS, but with the tow vehicle (2010 Ram 3500 SRW 4X4) it may not be possible to set it up completely level and have sufficient bed rail clearance.

That might be a good question for Lippert.

We tow a 303 with a 2011 3500 SRW 4X4. We have 17 inch wheels on the truck, 16 inch wheels on the trailer and had no issues with being nose high or bed rail clearance. Now that GD has added additional frame spacers to give more tire clearance, you shouldn't have a problem, particularly if you go to 16 inch wheels, which I would recommend anyway. Lots more options when it comes to E rated tires, including LT's.

Hook one up and have a look.

Thanks for the information, notsosan. Your body measurements are probably about the same as mine with the side rails being 59" high at the rear (unloaded). The truck must squat a bit when loaded to give you your clearances. The amount of squat is the unknown part of the equation. I would want 16" wheels-salesman is looking into whether they come with them now that the frame spacer gives the needed room.

I was waiting to find one of the 16s on a lot to measure to try to guess if I would need a slider (would be a Pullrite), or could get away with a B&W Companion. If I may, what is your hitch setup?

JCR GD, thanks for the numbers. I'll give them a call if GD doesn't respond. Lippert has a facility down the street from Grand Design.

My hitch is the same Draw-Tite 16K manual slider I used with our previous truck and trailer. It is now 13 years old and still works fine. I had the head off the other day for a clean and lube and everything is in good shape. I slide it when getting into tight spots, more for peace of mind than anything as you can turn this rig fairly tight without. Nice not to be concerned about hitting the cab when you are concentrating on backing the trailer into a tight spot.

Nose High Towing the 303 RLS

I tow a 2014 GD Reflection 303 with 15" wheels and tires behind a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 with factory 20" wheels, and have towed it >10,000 miles nose high. I'm not comfortable with it, but every time I fuel up or stop, I shoot the tires with a IF Heat gun, and the rears are running about 5-10 degrees hotter than the front axles. I use a B&W companion hitch.
