Has anyone installed the Retract-a-spare? I cannot find a single picture of how it mounts to the trailer frame and their instructions left a lot to be desired.

    Thanks!

I know this is an old post, but did you ever find any information on your own -- and did you actually install a carrier? I've tried contacting BAL customer service, but I got this bizarre response:

"Your message to [email protected] couldn't be delivered.
The group balcustomerservice only accepts messages from people in its organization or on its allowed senders list, and your email address isn't on the list."

What I'm interested in is specs on the Retract-a-spare configuration. Specifically, the location of the tire/wheel hoist is offset. I need to know the amount of offset to determine if the mount will fit my rig. My specific question is this:

On sub-assembly part no. 20400101 TIRE CARRIER ADJUSTABLE MODIFIED, what is the length from the frame rail bracket to the cable?

I have since discovered that the retract-a-spare is not made for a frame as wide as on my Solitude. So I still have not installed it and need to get it welded at the right width since there flimsy bolt/hole setup wont work for me. Just a PSA for any other wide-body trailer owners.

While you were writing this, I was at my trailer in storage measuring the distances between the 310GK's frame rails: 78.5 inches. The Retract-a-Spare only supports a distance of 72". Unfortunate.

I gather you did order one. Are you saying that the unit's end-brackets that bolt into the frame rails are flimsy? And that you regret ordering the unit? That's interesting, because I was able to examine the Hide-A-Spare (not Retract-A-Spare) installed on someone else's trailer, and I ruled it out as an option because IT was so flimsy.

The issue is the middle connection point between the L and R frame pieces. Where the retract-a-spare goes into the i-beam frame should be fine.
