Blew a tire...recourse?
Hi GD team,
I blew a WestLake tire on the way to Gallup, NM. It blew out part of the underbelly. Do I have any recourse with the tire manufacturer?
Thanks.

Is there proof that it was a tire failure and not road debris that caused it?
They would want to test it to make sure it was properly inflated, not overloaded, and not caused by damage before they would consider paying anything.
Just saying......
Insurance should cover any trailer damage caused by the tire.Steve- Inventory Manager at Tom Schaeffer's RV, Shoemakersville, PA www.tomschaeffers.com

Chris: You cannot prove that it's anything the manufacturer did. Anyway, the manufacturer is probably in China. Just make an insurance claim and go about your day.
We see reports virtually everyday online where tires disintegrate and do damage to the trailers. Some owner had 2 Goodyear Marathons blow the last couple of days. And trailer manufacturers (both RV and marine) continue to take the cheapest way out with Chinese Will Pop tires. I doubt that there are enough high quality ST tires manufactured in the world to put on all the trailers built.
I just know that as soon as my Reflection trailer is delivered in the next week or two, I will be swapping to Bridgestone R250's immediately. Too bad the great Goodyear G614's are $399 each.

I just had. Four G614RTS tires installed on my Solitude 369 RL and they were expensive but the trailer has a much better ride and they are actually stamped Made In USA. I really wish manufacturers would offer the better tire option instead of letting us get blowouts first and then having to replace them anyway. I dont know why offering better tires as an option is such a big deal if the customer is willing to pay for them. I had a blowout on my Solitude as well as two blowouts on a previous trailer. I rather pay more money for tires than experience blowouts.

Thanks Hunter!
That's great info for future buyers.

I put a TPMS system on ASAP, most of the time tire blowouts are caused by under inflation, so if you pick up a nail in transit and the tire looses air... BAM!!

One has to ask, why so many blowouts on trailers compared to other types of vehicles? Can't remember having one on a car or truck. Something is seriously wrong in this industry.
