As far as we’re concerned, the RV damper works exactly like the dampers in our house-because they’re made of plastic. The dryer vent flap stays half open until you remember to brush the lint out of the opening. Likewise, the bathroom fan flap needs a periodic cleanup on the outside (not to mention a seasonal application of wasp spray). The only exception is a 50+ year old vented kitchen fan. When you turn that one off, you can hear the metal flap slam down and close! Nothing is made the way it used to be.

All of my dampers at home close on their own. Your dryer vent closes on its own when clean. It's disappointing this doesn't work the same. Now that I know, I'll adjust.

The reason the vent has the locking tabs is when you trailer in motion is is pulled open by the vacuum behind the trailer, If you driving in a rain storm the water spray can enter. I know I should lock it down, but keep forgetting.

Also in my case I had a sticking flap. I posted on how I removed it and polished up the flap edges with sand paper for a better fit.

    Hope this helps

I put this cover on mine. If it had/has tabs, I don't recall. But the design keeps the flap from coming loose with having to fasten it.

How is the “manual release damper” different from the tabs on the factory vent?

My issue wasn't travel. It is having to open before use and close it afterward lest cold air in the fall and hot in Summer comes in.

I had hoped GD built a far superior RV than the others.
