Something I have never heard anyone talk about with the slide toppers is can you adjust the tension on them as they stretch out a little.

Slide toppers on Solitude - opinions?

I lean a ladder up against the slide and use a broom to sweep the water off, before pulling the slide in, only takes a couple minutes. But we only have the one slide, and it’s in the living room, so it’s not that big of an issue.

It’s funny you mentioned the sound of rain on your slide. That’s really the only place we hear it because we have 7 five foot solar panels covering the roof of our 27 foot trailer!

    Ed,
What ladder do you use? Light weight?

Thanks for all the information. Based on what I learned here, and on talking to a few folks who have the same model I have with slide toppers, I went ahead and bought them for all three slides. They are indeed somewhat noisy in high wind, but even in wind gusting to 40 they didn't make enough noise to make me regret having them. Otherwise, they do what they're supposed to, and keep the top of the slides pretty dry, and they keep out leaves and other debris. I'll know more after they've been up for a while, but so far, so good.

When we ordered our 310gk earlier this year, we opted against slide toppers on account of an experience we had last year camping at the coast with friends of ours. Their toy hauler has slide toppers, one of which tore to threads one night in gale-force winds. At least once a year on average, we find ourselves in such winds here at the North Coast of Ca. So for what it’s worth, I’ll do the ladder-and-sweep thing for now.

I thought I read here that placing a partially inflated beach ball under the topper helps to mitigate the drainage issue

Rob uses a golf cart inner tube under at least one of his awning toppers. See post #18 in this thread with narrative and picture.

That will help the drainage and stop ponding , but will do little for high winds. I have slide toppers but never thought of the high winds some might experience.
