    Sixteen inch tires

I am thinking of upgrading my wheels and tires to 16" on my 303. Those of you that have done this what size tire did you use? I'd like to go with Duravis R250 LT235/85R16 if they'll fit.

You will be cutting it pretty fine with 235/85's. I have just over 2"clearance on the left side with 235/80's and going to 235/85's will reduce that by another 1/2 inch. If you haven't bought rims yet, 245/75's on 7" rims will give the same clearance as 235/80's and 225/75's on 6" rims will give you 1/2" more than 235/80's.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question. I thought that the 303RLS came with 15" wheels that are 5 lug pattern. So 1,am wrong on the 5 lug, or have you found wheels that are 16" with 5 lug pattern? I also would like to go to 16" but with LT tires.
    Thanks for any advice.

The 5200 lb axles on the 303 are a 6 lug 5.5" bolt circle I believe.

There are lots of 16" wheels available in 6 lug. Do an internet search on trailer wheels. Most are 6" wide but there are some 7". I transferred the 16's over from my old 5th wheel which had 5K Dexter axles. The Marathon ST's are fairly new so I will try them for awhile and if I don't have any clearance issues, I'll shop around for some 7" wheels and go with 245/75 Duravais.

Well I'm off this week and had planned a trip to Pigeon Forge today, but yesterday while loading the camper I noticed bubbles on both of my passenger side tires. I did not trust it to drive 250 miles and nowhere to get new tires with such short notice. I had to cancel my reservations which cost me over $200. I was charged for the entire stay because I cancelled the day before arrival. I had no choice. I am definitely getting LT tires now. WHY!! Do these manufactures continue to install these cheap Chinese tires. Unbelievable.

I am replacing our tires in the spring with LT's also. I have heard of people not having any issues with their tires but surf the forums and it is filled with horror stories and with these being heavier trailers I am not taking any chances. I would rather they add the small additional cost and use that as a marketing tool rather than make us pay for poor tires and have the additional expense of replacing them. I would love get an answer from any of the manufacturing higher ups. I bet there is a statistic somewhere that indicates there are very few problems before the warranty runs out so the manufacturers have no reason to make changes until we as consumers refuse to purchase these with junk tires.

At the Rally seminar, they did quote a statistic on failures that I did not write down but my memory says something like .02 of 1% was the failure rate. I could be WAY off but that is what stuck in my mind.

3daawgg. I used to be in the tire biz years ago. It is possible that the "bubbles" you see are actually normal variations in the sidewall of the tire due to where the tire cords overlap. It's very normal. If you're not sure, shoot me a picture and I'll check it out for you.

If you were told that the failure rate is .02 of 1%, that certainly must be post 2006. Hangzhou was forced by the US government (the only time in history) to recall up to 450,000 Westlake, Compass, Telluride and YKS tires. They were manufactured without a gum strip (or with an insufficient one) to keep the belts from separating. Recall was for tires made 1-18-04 to 1-14-06.

I am confident that the current tires are made properly, as they had a huge expense with that recall.

Having said that, though, I replaced my Westlake tires with Michelin LT XPS Ribs before my first trip.
