Poor Quality Lug Nuts? Do We Need To Replace Them??

    Grand Design,

Could you please have your engineers review this thread and let us know if we do in fact need to replace our lug nuts, due to poor quality?

    http://www.mygrandrv.com/for...piece-lug-nuts!!!

This is a teaching moment, if in fact it's true.....Improve the quality please, and don't cut corners to improve profits. If you build a better quality product, customers will likely be willing to pay a little more for a better 5th wheel. Otherwise, you'll miss the point of your mission, to build a better 5th wheel, eliminating the things customers won't be happy with, right??? I think I understand where you're trying to take the company, just trying to help you make sure you don't lose sight of your end goals...

    I hope that helps,

    Paul

Grand Design. As Don states above, please provide the size of the lug nuts for all the different models so we can purchase one piece replacements. Thanks.

I took a lug nut off my trailer to inspect. It was marked 1/2 x 20. I ordered those below and had them installed by Discount Tire when they balanced my wheels again last week. I chose to order slightly longer ones than the originals. Grand Design can confirm the size or you can remove one and double check it.

    Ordered from brandsportsinc.

Mine were 1/2" x 20 also on my 369RL. Costco tire shops carry these for about 0.40 each.

OK, so before everyone scatters to replace lug nuts, could Grand Design please confirm if in fact the quality is not as good as it should be and the lug nuts should be replaced? Is that accurate from the other thread I referenced at the start of this post?

    Thank you GD!

    Janice,

We haven't gotten a response yet from GD. Could you please have someone from GD please confirm if this is a known issue and if so, which units it affects? I have heard there may be a recall for lug nut issues, so please help us out so we know if affects us.

    Thanks in advance Janice,

They are junk. I had to use a chisel to get one of mine off. The outer decorative cover just spun on the lug nut and then nothing would fit it to take it off. Ended up pounding a next size smaller socket on it to remove it..

    Hi Paul & Kris (@WhyPaulo),

The lug nuts are not "poor quality" and do not need to be replaced. The concern appears to be related to the fact we use nuts with stainless steel caps vs. chrome. Replacement is a personal choice -- chrome will rust. With the correct socket, we have had no issues with the stainless steel lug nuts.

    Best regards,
    ~ Janice
