Yea me too, never heard of an inverter that can double it’s output during surge.
Mine is 3000 watts and surges to 3999 watts.

    Here's mine
    https://www.aimscorp.net/3000-Watt-P...-Inverter.html

3000 watts continuous, 6000 watts surge. Doesn't say how long, but I'll bet its milliseconds.

I'm going to try not to test it, though.

DMB & John, you got me curious.
Looked at a few inverter specs.

AIMS PWRI300012120S Inverter 6000W for 40 milliseconds - from manual

    Victron Multiplus 12/3000 6000W Peak Power = Time ?

    Go Power! GP-ISW3000-12 Inverter
    Maximum Output Power (1Min) > 3000 VA~3450 VA (100%~115%)
    Surge Power (1Sec) < 6000 VA

    Go Power! GP-IC-3000-12 Inverter Charger
    Surge Power (100 milliseconds) 6000W
    Surge Power (5 seconds) 4800W

Magnum Hybrid Inverter Charger MSH3012 Peak Watts 3,900W
1 msec surge current (amps AC) 70
100 msec surge current (amps AC) 40
5 sec surge power (real watts) 3900
30 sec surge power (real watts) 3800
5 min surge power (real watts) 3200
30 min surge power (real watts) 3000
Continuous power output at 25°C 3000 VA

    The MSH3012 is a beast.

    WOW

I had no idea. Thanks for sharing!

Now I don’t feel so bad paying $1900 for the 3012.

From what I understand, your solar will not be powering the inverter. Solar charges the battery(ies). The battery(ies) power the inverter. The diagram below is from https://two.ineedmorespace.co/solar_..._for_cabin.php (found searching Google images):

    Attachment 17546

The ATS, in the diagram, is built into the inverter. The "AC Generator" in the diagram is synonymous with "shore power". In a system as shown in the diagram a second ATS is not required.

I wonder how many times I'll have to edit this...
You are correct. A common misconception is solar powers the loads, which is incorrect. The batteries power the loads and the inverter receives power from the batteries as well. Solar charges the batteries.

The specs on Amazon say it weighs 14 lbs.
    Is that right?
I am definitely no electrician so I’m wondering why it is 40 lbs lighter than my 3000 watt inverter. I wonder what they left out?

Not sure, It dose not have a ATS in it I know that. And it was $1500 cheaper than your's. We will see how it works.

My AIMS is about the same weight. The difference is yours is probably an inverter and charger and perhaps ATS.
