    spare tire crank

I'm sure this is a stupid question but how do you crank down the spare tire in a 303?

Through a hole in the passenger side skirt just behind the wheels, at least that is where it is on our 337.

But does the tire come all the way down? We are looking at it and the tire will crank down a little and then crank right back up! What's the deal?

The cable is probably jammed up... it should go all the way to the ground. Crank to lowest point and pull on the tire or jar it some how to un-jam.

Had the same problem on our 303 when we got it. I lowered the spare as far as I could, onto blocks on a furniture dolly so I could unhook the spare from the cable and then sort out the cable jam. BTW, this is one "really inexpensive" tire lift mechanism. If you turn the spare over and load it valve down, you will be able to check spare tire pressure without lowering it.

Rob, the first thing I did when we picked up our 337 was to flip the spare so I could check it. I'm not sure why manufacturers install the tire with the valve up, but it was the same way on my last two pick up trucks.

So something being kicked up won't accidentally break off the valve stem.

    Hi Poppy,

I've heard that theory too . . . but I think this is very low probability, particularly with the spare close behind the rear axle.
How many owners will lower the spare to check air pressure ? I suspect this has an equally low probability .
A TPMS sensor on the spare is a great idea ! I added one when I got my TPMS.

I never thought of adding a sensor to the spare but I think it's a great idea! Gotta order one before our big trip this year.
