Average Pin Weight on Solitude 310GK?
Hello all - New to the forum and we've decided on a Grand Design and now we are working on which model. We love the Solitude (who doesn't??) but not sure about pin weight. I have an available payload of about 3200 lbs and we have about 1500 lbs of gear to put in the RV. The payload is my constraint depending on pin weight (the more I'm reading I see this is a common problem!). I'm looking at the Reflection 337RLS, Solitude S-Class 2930RL, and the Solitude 310GK. My preference is the 310GK. From reading the forums, I see a lot of GD average a 22-23% pin weight, so that's what I'm using for my calculations. I think I'm ok for the Reflection and S-Class based on a 23% avg pin weight and the amount of gear we have to load, but the Solitude 310GK is pushing it...just curious what the 310GK model averages for pin weight and if it's in line with the 22-23% I've been seeing. We don't dry camp or boondock so I'm not concerned about adding water to the tanks unless it will help with the pin weight (not sure where the tanks are located, before or after axles). Also, I'm not even close on the max trailer weight or combined weight - I'm going to top out payload before I hit that.
If the 310GK isn't an option due to pin weight - does anyone know if you can order a 'dressed up' Reflection or S-Class? Not loving the interiors so much on those...
Appreciate your input. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. Lots of weight discussions here. Most tend to use the gross weight of the trailer to calculate pin weight. The dry weight printed on GD's website and brochures are estimated and most have been found to be a little lighter than they actually are, this is why we use the gross for worst case scenario. Having 3200# payload you have to remember to subtract from that the hitch you put in the bed and anything else that is in there as well. An average pin weight I have seen here seems to be around 20%. With this and the gross weight of the trailer you can decide what is feasible to tow.
There have been plenty here as well that have bought another truck after buying a trailer that weighed to much for the truck, some have bought 3 trucks to get it right.; I would think with your 3200# pay load that the 337 is about the only one out of the 3 that you may be safe with.

You don't indicate the truck you will be pulling with and that may be intentional but for perspective, my 337RLS has a weighed pin weight of 3,200 lbs. I'm pretty sure the 310 is more. Remember 22-23% of Gross weight, not dry weight.

I’ve also already subtracted hitch wt (250 lbs) to arrive at the 3200#. Forgot to mention in the prior post.

Thank you!! Based on that, definitely gonna pass on the 310 (although I’m sad about it).

When I measure mine this summer (loaded for a 2 week trip) it was...
Trailer: 14,040 lbs
Pin: 2,740
That works out to just under 20% I think. I don't have a generator, my fresh water tank was 1/2 full and waste tanks empty.Larry KE4DMG

The answer is, it depends to some extent on what you have (gen set, washer, dryer, dual pane windows, full or empty water tanks, etc.) and how you load it.
On our 310GK, I average about 2850# pin weight. Lowest was 2820# and highest was 2934# pin weight. Trailer (not axle) weights between 13,300 and 14,040#. Pin weight of 20 to 22%. Measured 6 times last year. (first year with trailer). Weights were with 1 stock battery 30~60# propane. Our 310GK has the queen bed and basically no options (no gen set, solar, etc.). We pack fairly heavy on food and light on clothing and "stuff" (tools, etc.) for 4~5 week long trips. I usually carry about 20 gals fresh water (more fresh water = less pin weight), empty grey tanks (more water = heavier pin) and about 3~5 gallons in the black tank (more water = heavier pin). I pull this with a 2017 F-350 SRW (see sig) and a payload rating (yellow sticker) of 3,253#. I am right at my weight limit with about 800# in the truck (2 adults, tools, hitch, tonneau cover, cooler). The truck pulls find and I am comfortable in the Colorado Rockies (steep hills, sharp turns and WIND), but would not want any more weight on the truck.
For more details on MY weights, see https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...285#post160285 Using the search function (box above the "advance search " buttom near the top right of each page) type in "310GK weight" and you will get some additional threads.
Good luck. We really love our 310GK. Love the finish, pulls great and large enough living area but small enough I have gotten it into every camp site we have wanted (but sometimes it is tight - like older Oregon coast state campgrounds ).
