    The concern, as stated by Gsport, is that the stainless steel cap can spin and a "smaller socket has to be pounded on." A good chrome lug nut is solid chrome--it will never spin like the caps.

    I did not want to take a chance on the caps and having to change a tire in the middle of nowhere, so I changed my lug nuts.

    As Janice said use the proper size wrench but also do not let anyone use an air tool on them. That is the number one reason that they spin. If one does come off quite often a metric socket will then fit it.

    Or purchase a set of good quality solid lug nuts and not worry about the cap spinning off on the side of the road when you're changing a flat tire. If folks insist on keeping the original lug nuts, make sure you get a six-point socket and not a 12-point to give you the best chance of successfully removing them.
