Level first or put slide outs out first
This is our first 5th wheel camper with auto leveling and slide outs. We are going to bring our camper home tomorrow. What do you do first? Auto Level or put slide outs out?

I auto level first. I don't want any up and down, twisting (possible) etc, with slides out.
May not make a difference in the end, but I've always set up that way with all my trailers, so never saw the reason to change.

I think the instructions will say to level first...then extend slides...and retract them before “unleveling” to hook up. Otherwise would be putting un-even stress and possible twist on the slide mechanism which in turn puts more stress on the motors. I admit to occasionally partially extend one while hooked up which is a little nose high...but don’t do it often and certainly not all three. Don’t know if I have a clue as to what I’m talking about but that’s how and why I do what I do... whew!

I always thought it made sense to level the trailer first before the slide out is performed. Then again, I taught to make or break the dry connections first before the wet connections when setting up the utilities. Lastly, don't mess with the stinky slinky unless you have to.

I always level first then put out the slide-outs. If I am in a parking lot with the truck hooked up such as when stopping for lunch I don't have any reservations about moving the kitchen slide out if we want more access. I wouldn't move anything (truck, jacks or whatever) without putting the slide back in since I would not want to introduce any twisting movements into the slide mechanism.

The only person I ever heard say you could put out slides prior to leveling also said water regulators and surge protectors were unnecessary marketing ploys.

I saw a video once aimed at new rv’rs where the guy put slides out before unhooking and leveling, and brought them in after hooking back up. I cringed...
