ditto what joeshantz said... And maybe you may have to loosen the screws on the side too so the glass can slide up. The screw on the right side of my unit was tightened and I had to loose it. Good thing the one on the left was loose, it would be hard to get to.
When I drop stuff down the TV well I put some Gorilla tape on the end of broom handle and then put it down the well and it will usually grab whatever it is I dropped.

Yes, that thin strip above fireplace. Held on by staples. We used a chisel tapped in on side. Easy to remove. Start removing a lot of screws to be able to pull out fireplace. Take photos along the way to remind yourself of which screws go where. Isolate screws to near where they’re needed. Only one set of wood screws. Clean behind there while you are there. Couldn’t find a way to clean any filter that may be there.
