    Question 4 Solitude 320x Owners

The 320 x is on our short list for a new 5th wheel. I am a little concerned about the pin weight. Would be interested in hearing form other who own a 320 x and what they tow with. Would really be great to hear from someone who weighed one.
We currently have a 2500 extended cab 4x4 diesel. It's a 2012 and we really don't want to have to buy a bigger truck if we don't need to.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Tom & Glo,
I have a Solitude 369RL and I pull it with a F250 6.7 diesel. The combine truck and trailer weight is 22800. I have not had one minute of trouble pulling it. When I'm on the interstate I set the cruise at 65 and don't look back with speed in reserve if needed for passing and I get between 11.5 & 12 miles per gallon when pulling so I very pleased with my setup and you have the same setup on your 2500 so my bet is that you will not have any trouble. I'm heading toward Arizona next week and I willing to bet that I will have no problem in the mountains.

Not trying to sound like the weight police here but the 320x GVWR is 15,000 pounds. If that's under your GCWR, you're good to go. I have a 2011 Ram 5500 so I don't have that worry. As Joe N R said, you'll probably be ok with the 2500.

Tom & Glo - What is the payload capacity of your truck? According to the GD website, the 320X has an average pin weight of 2,480 pounds. Add the 2,480, 150 pounds for a hitch, driver and passenger weights, and finally the weight of any cargo you put in the truck. If all of that is less than the payload capacity of your truck, you should be in pretty good shape. If your truck's payload is not up to the task, you should consider a more capable truck, or a lighter FW.

If you haven't looked, the payload for your truck will be listed on the tire placard on the driver's door post.

Most likely you will be over the GVWR of the truck, but under the gross rear axle. I would not hesitate to pull a 320X with my 2500 ( same as yours). I would have looked hard at the 320X if they were out when I bought my Reflection. In the end the choice is yours to make, best of luck.

I am fairly certain that I will be over the payload GVWR. But I am worried about going over the GAWR. Which is 6200 ilb. The literature weight has moved around a little by 500 lbs.
The unit I looked at is almost 200 lbs lighter overall than the recent average quoted. I don't know about the pin weight ?
I guess there isn't a lot of these units out there yet, or many owners on this forum either.
If we do decide on the 320 x I'll just hook on to it and bring it home ad worry about the weights and the truck later. The really really of it that between a 2500 and 3500 srw, it's a placard issue not an equipment issue.
Thanks for the input I have gotten so far. Hope to hear from someone who has one soon.

if you really want to get hard numbers for the payload capacity of your truck, take it to a CAT scale and weigh it full fuel, passengers, hitch and gear. Get front and rear axle weights and total weight and compare them to the truck's GVWR and GRAWR.

I believe that there's minimal differences between a 250/2500 and 350/3500 SRW...the biggest 2 being a heavier rear spring pack and higher load rated tires to enable a 7000+ GRAWR on the 350/3500 SRW.

The stated dry pin weight % for the 320X is 21.4%...that's the least it will ever be as the percentage will increase as you load the camper. If you load it up with 1000 - 2000# of stuff, the pin weight will be 2692 - 2906# using a pin weight of 21.4%...though the pin weight % will probably increase loaded...2% more on our Reflection.

I have scaled my truck before. I know exactly where I am at with my present set up.
Another question for the 337 RLS ( our other choice ) owners, what tires are standard on the 337 RLS ?

They're Westlake 235/80R16 E...3510# load rating per tire. I believe that the 320X would be the same tire as both have 6000# axles. I'm not sure whether they use the same tire or 235/85R16's with the 7000# axles.
