Average cost of rental space
I am trying to figure out how to budget for a several month at a time lifestyle with our 310GK. We don't mind a mix of boondocking for 3-5 nights and then in a park for a week or two. I am curious how some of you budget for the weeks or months that are spent at parks. I know this is a very open ended question and I don't want to inquire about anyone's finances or be impertinent in any way, I'm just looking to see what kind of range is used most often.
Are memberships in the various clubs worthwhile for this?Jeff and Jen

It really depends on the park. Some offer a Good Sam Discount but often only on nightly rates. Some offer weekly or monthly rates that are usually more of a discount. Around here, parks range from $350 to $700/month with some covering all electricity, some covering some electricity, and some covering none in those rates. Some only offer weekly or monthly rates in the "off-season". Weekly rates I have seen in this area range from $125 to $280.

Site rental by the month at private parks is usually the best deal. Electricity is often extra because some have one AC and some have three. The difficulty is that in popular areas and peak season, you have to book a year in advance.

It varies a ton by location and time of year.
Florida as an example, in season, you can be looking at $1,800 a month in SE FL to a few hundred a month up in the middle of the state without much around. You can go down to the keys and pay $2300 or more a month and I'm sure other places are more expensive. This is an extreme example because popular FL areas are sold out with waiting lists during season, thus high prices. Off season? You can find something for around < $700 in those same areas. Obviously when you go matters.
Flip side of that is you can head to Quartzite and camp for virtually nothing.
Anyway, you're looking around $700-1000 a month for a nice private CG in most average to above average COL areas that have high demand but aren't sold out for their season. Cut that down to around $400 - 600 in lower COL areas or areas off the desired path or perhaps sit under an major highway .
These prices go up fast when the area you're in sells out seasonally every year or is in an extreme COL area. See FL Jan through March.
If you are willing to get reservations, some places upwards of a year in advance, you can use State Parks for a lot less. You'll have to move every 14 days or so though and getting reservations for solid blocks of 2 weeks at a pop can be impossible in some areas.
You can also boondock in a ton of areas to cut down on costs.
There are many ways to skin the cat on this topic. Kind of like asking "how much do I need to retire." One man is living on $700 a month and another needs 2500 just to pay his mortgage he never got paid off.Last edited by Aridon; 04-29-2019 at 09:53 PM.

Not an east task. We pay $1150/m at the beach in CA off season and $270/m in the mountains in AZ. In AZ mountains, a location within easy access to Phoenix is $750/mo versus the $270 for a similar park/location, wrt off-roading, but an additional 2.5+ hours further.

It's just over $2,000/month ($1,695 + $12/day) for the park we stay at in Palm Springs.

Average cost of rental space
We’ve been full time for 5 years now, and stayed all across the country. Our 5 years average is $27/night. We have never boondocked or stayed at a Walmart. We’re not camping....we’re living in 400sqft. If boondocking is your style, you’ll be able to average less. We do use Passport America, GoodSams and Escapees for discounts.
Have fun!

BTW, do not overlook National Parks and COE camping, especially if you are over 62 and have the Senior Pass. While they often do not have sewer at the sites, many have 50amp and water. We have an upcoming stay for which we’ve paid $15 a night.
The recreation.gov website makes it easy to find and book sites on-line.

Winter... We pay $180 total for a 7 month pass in (near) Quartzite.
It’s dry camping (which we prefer) but you park pretty much anywhere ya want at one of the Long Term Visitors Areas (or any BLM camping area) and have full access to the LTVA dumping stations, water fill and dumpsters for that fee, for the entire 7 months. That’s 86 cents a day.
Summer... we paid about $3k for a Thousand Trails membership so we can stay on the West coast all Summer long.
We can sell that membership back for pretty much what we paid for it, now or 20 years from now, so we’re really only out about $600 a year for dues, which is pretty cheap for us since we’re FT, that’s $3.33 a day (since we only use it for 6 mos) for FHU sites, most within walking distance of the beach.
So we pay $780 per year for a place to camp/electric/water etc.
