Now that name brings back so many great memories from the early 80's. It's on my bucket list of places to revisit. I rode there almost every Thanksgiving from 1979 to 1984. Pretty empty in those days. 6 or 7 of us had 250cc dirt bikes. Mine was a 1980 Yamaha YZ250 with the six speed trani.

Another old guy here with a couple YZs but 125s back in the day. Had a used 1976 first...tore out the tranny racing motocross and then bought a new 1978 YZ 125. Still have my Yamaha racing jersey.....wonder if it still fits ! A group of us (6 or more as well) would ride in our area and do hill climbing in the soft shale of the Missouri river breaks in south central SD.

Other guys had YZ 250s, older YZ 350 I think ? and a YZ 500 as I recall ?.....huge one lugger. A couple others had the blue Yamaha IT 175s. Allowed some Kawasakis in once in a while !

Will have to find some pics. and post.

I owned a Suzuki dealership during those years so not much love for the Yamaha dirt bikes.

But yeah, they were great bikes and those were great times.

One of my riding buddies had a Suzuki 500 with the full floater rear shock back then. I don't remember what year it was though.

Back in the day I used to have nightmares of being tied on to an RM500 with the throttle stuck WFO.

Ha Ha.....yep those big bore 2 strokes could be a handful. Loved them though.
I had a yz465, an 85 cr500, then my last one was a 95 cr500. I rode the 2 cr500s for 20 years combined. ah the good old days.
Just to stay on topic, Boondocking. We spent many a day boondocking in the desert & riding those bikes
