Pesky Dometic thermostat in a 2800BH

So I was having the same issue as others with the thermostat not working all the time. If you take the cover off and touch the spade ends that go into the cover works good so I thought why not put female ends on, drill a hole at each of the terminals in the cover slightly larger than the ends of the female terminal then trim them flush with the cover? So that's what I did and now the thermostat works every time now without hesitation. Btw, if a moderator can turn these pictures it would be better, can't figure out how.Click image for larger version.

Great idea, another option is to call Dometic Customer Service, they will send a redesigned faceplate.

Call Dometic. I told them the problem I was having, and asked for the updated faceplates. They sent me 2 complete thermostats. Talked to them on a Monday, had new thermostats that Friday.

May I ask what kind of problem you was having? I'm having issues at the moment and thinking it may be my thermostat. Periods of where the AC turns off and on over and over and the bed room set at 67 but seems to run when it wants to.

Great idea, we had the same issue also. It seems that the foam in the thermostat cover gets damp and causes it to think you are pressing all the pads at the same time.
We removed the foam and replaced it with a tiny bit of aluminum tin foil.
    Works awesome now.

I had the same issue on my heartland TT so I simply took the cover off and touched the contacts as you described and it worked just fine so I just
Left the cover off. Problem solved from a practical standpoint, although it wasn’t really nice looking cosmetically.

Colan - what do the redesigned faceplates look like ? Is there a visual difference or just a functional ?

When GDRV installed our 2nd AC last spring, the thermostat seems to have a mind of its own at times as folks here are sharing. I reported this to Jerry McCarthy as we were exchanging emails and his team sent a new one but it looks just the same.

The “stuff” inside the cover has changed.
