Thank you Paul. What kind of truck do you have? I watched a video on this and it looked very doable. I am waiting to discuss this with the Grand Design factory rep to see if the Solitude is to heavy for this equipment.

Has anyone had any problems with their sliding hitch (not auto) making clunking noises when you stop and start?

Have you considered the Andersen Hitch. I have it and love it. www.andersenhitches.com It weighs about 75lbs and removes in about a minute (by one person). It leaves a clean bed as well.

I reread your origional post and noticed that you mentioned the bed prep. I know I have a Ram, but the bed prep is the same. I purchased the gooseneck ball and the Andersen Hitch after triple checking with Lippert and Grand Design that there would not be any warrenty issues. We used it to pull the trailer 1000 miles each way to the Owners rally in Elkhart. I have no chucking and no noises from the 5th or the hitch. I was advised (by Andersen) that "it towes best with out any additional suspension (ie Flex Air King box) and I am a true believer. The cost is $500 and you can get it either from a dealer or direct from Andersen.

Hi Tammy & Chad
A clunk from the hitch when you stop/start is not all that unusual. I have had the same on two different 5W's (same hitch.)
I would just make sure that the slide mechanism is LOCKED into either the towing or maneuver position AND that the jaws of
the hitch fully encircle the king pin. I have asked around a lot about whether one of those Air Bag thingys on either the hitch
or king pin would cure it, but have not gotten a definitive answer.Ken & Wilma

We have an air safe hitch. We haven't been able to get out much but are leaving Wednesday for 2 months. What we have done I haven't felt any chucking or banging. Can tell you more when we get back. Never had a 5er before though to compare it to.
