It has been on 12 camping trips, and the wooden flooring is breaking apart in my kitchen and living room. My husband is an engineer and could fix the floor, but this was a large purchase and the flooring should last longer than 2 years. We have been in contact with Grand Design in April and May. Finally they told us that it may not be covered under the 3 year warranty and that we would need to take it to a repair shop to have it evaluated. Once the repair shop removed the vinyl flooring, they found no signs of water damage, but the particle board is breaking down in several spots. Now, we are trying to get in touch with J.Charles at Grand Design. My husband left messages last week and we haven't heard back from him. We emailed Customer Service at Grand Design on Sunday, and still have not heard back from anyone. I'm very frustrated with this. The other simple issues that were found at the one year inspections, but that we aren't trying to get fixed are that the end table is cracked, the convection oven cover is cracked. The rounded wall in the bathroom has buckled and now has a crease in it and the air conditioner in the living room has stopped working. When you spend this much on a NEW camper, you expect it to last longer than 26 months. Check things out thoroughly and be sure that the company will stand behind their product. I don't feel that Grand Design is doing us right as consumers.
I feel your pain, but with a major flaw like the sub-flooring breaking down, why wouldn't you be on the phone to them each and every day instead of waiting on an email? Now, if it is out of warranty that's another story.

Second, you mention the other issues that were discovered at the 1 year inspection. I assume these would at least be covered for one year. Any reason you did not pursue these being fixed under warranty?

I continue to be amazed at the comments on how good GD customer service is, yet I hear stories like yours. Really perplexing.

We have been calling them everyday. The flooring warranty is 3 years. However, the warranty service/customer service guy says that they have to "decide" if it will be covered by warranty. I finally got in touch with him today after calling and asking to speak to his supervisor.

The other issues were found during the 1 year inspection by the company that we bought the RV from. They told us that they were covered by warranty, and that they were ordering the parts. After not hearing back from them after a month, we call and found out that the company had been bought by Dixie RV and they were closed. Dixie RV says that they bought the location, but not the inventory, so we have no parts to replace them. Grand Design didn't seem interested in helping when we call them about these items. So, since they were cosmetic and didn't affect the safety, we just decided to let it go.

I hope that we will have a good outcome on the floor, but based on the attitude of the customer service guy, I'm not holding my breath. It is perplexing. It may just come down to who answers the phone when you call.

We have a 2015 303, and have had only minor issues. We've gone over 26k miles, and the trailer has performed very well. Friends of ours have a 2015 Solitude, same story, only minor issues.

Unfortunately, comparing a 10 year old camper to anything new isn’t a fair comparison. RV “quality “ has always been pretty poor but the newer units are worse. I was a service manager at a large RV dealership in the early 2000’s, the quality at that time was shoddy, mostly due to rushed construction with lots of crooked doors, stripped screws, rats nest wiring & leaky plumbing. Unfortunately the RV industry hasn’t learned or improved much, in fact seems worse. Production numbers are up, more rushed units but yet the sales numbers are higher than ever.

Now that all of that is out of the way the reality is that from what I saw in our recent search for a new camper the Grand Design was the better constructed unit. We looked at Jayco, Forest River, Cougar, Laredo, etc all of them had issues. What impressed me was that out of all the units the Grand Design needed the least prep, seams were tighter, screws were in place, caulked around the seams properly without excess oozing out, roof seals looked good, decent quality fixtures, etc. it’s a gamble with whatever you buy but I felt confident enough to spend my money on the Reflection.

We just got back from our maiden voyage, unfortunately it wasn’t without problems though. Two issues, the first was water pouring out from the bottom of the camper while my daughter showered. I removed the access panel in the basement & found the shower drain wasn’t connected to the rest of the plumbing. It looks to me like it was cut an inch to short, maybe it came out during transit but who knows, fortunately it was as simple as slipping the pipe back into the p-trap & tightening the clamp. I’ll probably replace the drain pipe & add an inch but it was fine the rest of the weekend. I also found two clamps on the pex that were dripping a few drops, pulled the clamps off & replaced with hose clamps with no other issues. Other than that we absolutely love the camper, fortunately our issues were something I was able to easily take care of, less than half an hour to repair. For me I know that all campers can have issues, so I wasn’t too upset. Should they happen? No....but unfortunately they do....what matters is that once you work your way through the issues is that you are happy with your purchase.

Good luck in the hunt for a new camper, it feels overwhelming at times but you’re doing the right thing by researching, just take everything you read with a grain of salt & trust your instincts when you’re looking at things in person.
And yet another example of an issue that if it happened to me, I would have had no idea how to fix it. My hats off to all you diy’ers but that doesn’t resolve my apprehensions.

Same here. The older units are better.

I'm new to this forum and I am to about to pull the trigger on a new grand design. I've own both Keystone and forest river campers. Walking into a GD is like walking into a different world. The quality is so much better. I looked at Jayco too, probably a close 2nd place. I've been asking people at the camp grounds that own GD if they like them and they all say yes. I haven't found one owner that did not like GD. Jayco not so much.

We have talked to people that were not so happy with their GD products. These people though were not aware of this forum or GD's service policy. They have had problems and never reached out for help form the great people here or from GD. I believe if they had been more aware of the help available their attitudes might not have been quite so negative.
