I was there for 3 weeks, 2 years ago, part of a 8 month cross country trip and I know this from experience. You can check online with RV Parky or another app.

Flathead Lake, Kalispell, Whitefish or any other " nearby city" have ordinances prohibiting ANY overnight parking.

I found off road areas where there weren't any , "No Overnight Parking Allowed" signs posted. We overnighted there without reprisals, even for two nights. Once, we
actually camped overnight in front of the Rangers Station after they'd gone home for the evening, as I wanted a first come first served walk up site the next morning .!!!

    Been there, Done that !!

The OP was for staying in a parking lot. You should NEVER use your generator there.

Well, if you’re not comfortable using a generator “there,” then it’s probably not adequate for overnight parking either. I’ve found most places discourage overnight RV parking, and yes, even most Walmarts prohibit it. You could always try “Harvest Host” which allows boondocking (self contained) at wineries, breweries, or farms throughout the country. Just be aware that there’s an annual fee for this network & they usually restrict your stay to one night & self-contained units.

Don’t know if you’re an Elks member, but Elks has a Lodge in Rapid City, South Dakota (10-sites with hookups, & dry camping available). You may even try Moose Lodges if you’re a member of the Moose.
