Relfection 297rsts okay to tow with Ram 2500?
Planning to purchase a Ram 2500 gas. It has a 6.4 engine, 373 axle ratio, rated to pull 12,600lbs. I want to make sure I am now in a good place for the 297rsts. Just could not afford diesel and not sure I need it for our travels. Anyone have concerns?

Hi jabhoyt,
I pulled ours with an F250 diesel (2016), and it performed well. Obviously you should have more payload numbers than my truck had. I would imagine your engine will be fine, but will have high rpm’s when climbing steep hills. I also use my engine brake a lot, which you do not have.Steve & Sue (pups:Sky & Sierra) Gardnerville, Nv

You should be fine. I just pulled mine on a 300 mile trip, the first time out. My 17 F250 6.2 pulled it almost as good as the PassPort I had. I tried 5th and 6th but liked it better just locking out 6th. 10.2 on the way up 8.7 on the way back that included Idle time.at stops along the way. Impressed with the Camper and the truck.

You should be fine. I tow mine with a 2009 Tundra. You have more payload than I do and a bit more power.

thank you all for your posts! We did realize the 1500 was not enough. We never plan to have 9000 lb. to pull, but want to be safe. I am glad we can do it with the 2500. thanks again for all your posts!

A gas 3/4 ton truck to tow a travel trailer, grossing under 10,000 lbs? Sounds like a towing sweet spot to me. I currently tow a Reflection 337RLS with a 2018 chevy 2500. I'm the only vehicle occupant and it tows very well for the few times a year I do it. Did very nicely coming down and going up the Smokey Mountains in TN. But if I had a do-over I'd be using a 3500 for that because it can gross about 4000lb higher than what you plan to tow.
That said, gas engines do find their highest torque and high rpm, and your mileage will be bad. With a travel trailer, sway control is a MUST with any SRW truck (in my opinion). Also, I thought the RAMs could do a lot better than 12,600 lbs even with a gas engine. What year is it?2018 Grand Design Reflection 337RLS
