Flooded 2018 Solitude 374TH with Blank Tank Flush

Well, I’m an idiot. I thought I turned off a water hose we had on a Y connection, but I turned on the sewer flush with the tank closed. I left to the grocery store, returned an hour later to water gushing out of the rear of the trailer and the interior flooded. Water was even coming out of the ceiling lights. We are full time RVers and I’m still sick to my stomach that I did this. We have dried everything we can, but we unscrewed the underbelly and there is water in there. Insurance adjuster is coming to assess the damage to tomorrow. Has anyone ever done this? What should I expect to hear from the adjuster? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Water coming out of the ceiling lights ? My guess the rig is totaled. You’ll have mold growing soon.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

We are so sorry to hear this! minnow has the situation analyzed exactly. It does need to be totaled, they call it insurance to compensate you for a loss no matter who or what caused it. This certainly is a teachable moment for many of us. Please keep us posted.

Curious how this turns out. Good lesson and reason why not to leave a flusher line hooked up all the time. If it isnt totaled, I'd invest in some large dehumidifiers, but I'm not sure how they can say mold wont grow in the ceilings.

Good time to review your full time policy to make sure it covers temp lodging during this time.

Man oh Man... Sure sorry to hear that.

How the heck does the water get all the way up into the ceiling lights?

Im sure right now that answer is the least of your worries.

I hope you'll let us know what the adjuster says.

It will be completly mold burdened in a month or two (when it heats up).

I the career I retired from, I took many mold remediation classes. If you had dried everything up the best you could and then put a couple of industrial dehumidifiers in there right away and closed it up and let them run for two or three days, you may have been able to save it. Water penetration (sticks and bricks or RV) the water gets in to places and areas that we can't see or get to. Open all of the cabinets and remove all of the drawers and leave the dehumidifiers on until you're down to at least 12%-15% humidity.

In this case, because it was your black tank that overflowed......there's no saving it. Black water will automatically make it be totaled. In homes, when it's black water (even if it's clean black water) we have to remove the baseboards, sheetrock.....everything that the black water touched has to be removed and the 2x4 studs have to be dried and treated before sheet rock can be replaced. Not the same in RVs.

If you had read this post you would have never left your black flush connected after completing the flushing. Hopefully you had left it with a clean tank , otherwise it's not just the water you have to be concerned with trying to clean up. We now never leave the black rinse connected unless flushing.

I do hope for your sake they total it. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear of this accident. I shut the water off at the hydrant when ever I leave the campground.
(Unless I forget ). Have heard of toilet pedals not completely closing and filling the black tank and
Flooding the camper. Hope everything goes well.

I concur with Bruce.... I NEVER leave the rig's water on whenever I leave the trailer, even for a couple of hours !!!
Thought I was being anal, but after hearing of this tragedy, it makes sense.

What I don't understand is how any black water could possibly get into ceiling ?
The only opening in this sanitary system, (besides the commode), is the vent which opens only to the roof ?

I truly hope all works out well for you.

    Michael
