    Fridge Question

Just curious as to what people do. In the summer, when you may be going out 2-3 weeks or so, do folks unload and turn the fridge off and then start it up again, or just leave it on and full (except for perishables like milk, eggs, etc)? I'm leaning towards just leaving it on to avoid the unload/load hassle.

I leave mine on and full, but am lucky enough to store it at my office with power. We use it enough that its not worth it to unload and reload.

    Hi-
We leave ours on and filled (non-perishable) all "camping season" The only time we have emptied and cleaned it out is when we winterized it.

Well, we travel about once a month. Between trips (while in storage), the fridge is off, drying out the frost/water vapor. Leaving it running on propane for the time between trips would use a lot of propane.

Other than shutting it off twice to defrost our fridge has run none stop for over two years. It does not hurt them to run IMHO.

Leaving the fridge on or off won't hurt it. The issue for us is preventing mold when it's off. We leave ours on unless we won't be camping for a while.

When we turn off the fridge, we clean it and place a "DampRid" moisture absorber (see picture) in each compartment to prevent mold and keep it clean. One in each compartment and if it will be off for a longer period, two in the larger fridge compartment. Then we close the doors to prevent humidity from entering.

The generic moisture absorber ones from Dollar Tree work (USA) or Dollarama (Canada) work just as well as the "DampRid".Click image for larger version.

I usually leave mine on from the 1st camping trip of the year to the last one. I have debated on turning it off when we have along break between trips.
